The news says there is something they use called genealogical DNA. Meaning they found DNA at the scene which didn't come up in CODIS, the database for DNA. There is some other database they can use which is open to the public where they can find family members with similar DNA and go from them. They just talked about this on CNN right now. Fascinating. Forensics are amazing.
