Republicans think workplace RAPE is OKAY.

Well knock me down with a feather, I never would ahve guessed...

In 2005, Jamie Leigh Jones was gang-raped by her Halliburton/KBR co-workers while working in Iraq and locked in a shipping container for over a day to prevent her from reporting her attack. The rape occurred outside of U.S. criminal jurisdiction, but to add serious insult to serious injury she was not allowed to sue KBR because her employment contract said that sexual assault allegations would only be heard in private arbitration--a process that overwhelmingly favors corporations.

This year, Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) proposed an amendment that would deny defense contracts to companies that ask employees to sign away the right to sue. It passed, but it wasn't the slam dunk Jon Stewart expected. Instead the amendment received 30 nay votes all from Republicans. "I understand we're a divided country, some disagreements on health care. How is ANYONE against this?" He asked.

He went on to show video of Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) arguing that it's not the government's place to decide who the government does business with and juxtaposed that with Republican sentiment on how the government should deal with ACORN. "I guess it's an efficiency thing. You don't want to waste tax-payer money giving it to someone who advises fake prostitutes how to commit imaginary crimes, you want to give it to Halliburton because they're committing real gang rape."

EVERY SINGLE NAY VOTE was from a republican. How can anyone think that a corporation should be allowed to do business with the US when they make people sign away their right to sue when they were gang raped? Is this more attempted protection of KBR because of their close connection with Cheney?

That's right, do anything but address the issue that every nay vote was from a republican. A woman was gang raped and the GOP, at least a majority of them in the Senate, think that KBR should be shielded from suit.

Her hatred of me is so great it allows her to rationalize issues like the GOP support workplace rape.

Next she will call me fat or a baby or some other ridiculous childish taunt.

I'd like to see Sen Franklin have a bill passed into law that woud deny government contracts to companies that force employees to sign non-compete agreements.

If you don't want someone to compete with you then pay them.

So Alex Leo, is lying? John Stewart did not cover this? I mean there's a video kind of proving he did. Or is Stewart lying? And about what? Did Franken not propose the amendment? Did the thirty Republicans not vote against it?

The GOP has not one leg to stand on here.

You make a great point but US does have a minor point that Mz. Huffington is a partisan and, in that respect, does lack credibility as an objective observer.

this thread title is a lie....

the facts appear to only be that republicans are against changing arbitration rules....not the bullshit zappygetard is trying to pawn off on unsuspecting people....

Wrong again.

Republicans are FOR DOING BUSINESS with companies who force their female employees into arbitration if an allegation of rape is made.

Why would a law-abiding, patriotic company like KBR NOT want to bring in law enforcement to determine whether an employee is guilty of rape?

you're lying sack of poo.....you said republicans think workplace rape is okay....that is false and your appeal to this is beneath even you....

even if the law changed now, it would have no bearing on her case. rape is a criminal matter....they never okayed a criminal matter, you're flat out lying, this is about arbitration that was freely agreed upon. i don't like the law as i feel it leaves consumers or in this case employees with little choice, however, it is the law now and it has nothing to do with rape.

and do you have proof she didn't get an award from arbitration, that arbitration didn't do justice?

This isn't a law we're talking about, it's KBR CORPORATE POLICY.

All Franken wants is for the US Government to stop doing business with companies who won't bring in law enforcement, but rather do an investigation internally, when an allegation of rape is made.

30 REPUBLICANS voted against that simple piece of legislation.

Why?

did you even your link....it is about the law....

This year, Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) proposed an amendment that would deny defense contracts to companies that ask employees to sign away the right to sue

the issue about law enforcement, again from your link....was because it was outside of US criminal jurisdiction, so once again, you're lying that they did not bring in law enforcement, they couldn't. and as i said, it was not about rape, it is about giving corps the power to have employees give up the right to sue and instead accept binding arbitration. scotus has ruled this costitutional....you really need to read your link closer and if you have, you're flat out lying that republicans okay'd rape....

and you still haven't answered my question:

did she not get justice from the arbitration?

WAIT .. are you suggesting that the thing that calls itself "USLOYAL whatever" is a woman?
