The guns, again, are not the problem. It's mentally ill people, most of which telegraphed their intentions, who are the problem. Note that most of them committed suicide after committing mass murder. Sometimes by themselves, sometimes with the assistance of the police. That's insane.
Three variables enter into every mass shooting; the shooter, the target, and the weapon. No one can predict who the next shooter will be, nor can we protect all the potential targets, but the one variable we could have some control over is the weapon that makes it all possible. How are you going to screen every adult in America for mental illness? There already exists numerous checks, but knowing who the next shooter is is impossible, and with easy access, nearly anyone can get a gun who wants a gun

All had previous problems and nothing was done until they committed mass murder.

Really? How many mental health checks have you had in the past five years? I have a physical every year but not a single mental health check. Most mentally ill telegraph their problems because they know they have a problem. They simply don't know what to do about it.
Screening can start in schools with simple 15 minute monthly computer testing along the lines of "how are you feeling today" or the “what I wish my teacher knew” program many schools already have. Obviously, HIPAA laws apply protecting students.

It's liberal poor parenting. When I went to school kids went to school with deer rifles and shotguns on gun racks in their trucks and in car trunks in school parking lots. Guns were just as common then as now. And they were more immediately available to kids. We never had shootings. We used to go immediately from school to hunt a few hours before dark. Good parenting isn't as common now as it was then.
