Today I’m not particularly worried about Republicans’ policy preferences. Today I’m worried about the survival of our democracy.

I’m worried that a majority of Republican candidates are telling voters, without any basis in fact, that the 2020 election was stolen from Donald Trump.

I’m worried that if elected, many of these Republicans will make it harder to conduct elections in the future, allow or encourage endless audits of election results, and even refuse to sign off on them.

There are many in America who I would say don't deserve democracy.

They treat it so carelessly, and take it for granted. Don't know what you've got, 'til it's gone.

In Italy, France and Hungary, too, far-right parties dominated recent election debate, exploiting irrational fears about security, national identity and immigration. The traditional left collapsed. In Britain, third-rate demagogues use the language of war to deplore a migrant “invasion”. Yet Labour’s opposing narrative fails to convince.

Keep the trains running on time, or at least accuse the other guy of making the trains late, and you are forgiven for being a despotic dictator. In fact, if you are THEIR dictator, you can attempt an insurrection, steal top secret documents, shake down our allies, and lie constantly. As long as your are perceived as 'owning the libs'. Because that's all Republicans care about. White supremacy. And 'the libs' represent diversity. There is NOTHING that scares old white men more than diversity.

I was optimistic over the summer that we might avoid the coming disaster. I no longer am. Biden and Garland are fiddling while Rome burns. I think Trump will be President again, and democracy is over for decades. No reason to believe that Trump will let the Constitution prevent him from seizing and holding power.

If that happens, I will be gone before the inauguration. You just have to look at the JPP nutters here to know they would hunt down ANYONE that opposed their Dear Leader. We will have no Constitutional protections once Trump takes office.

I'm not saying we're due for authoritarianism, which you will definitely interpret this as. But every time a country in history HAS slipped into authoritarianism - there were many people who responded like the above, and often not too long before it happened.

Democracy is an experiment. It's not a done deal.

I am sure there were people in 1930's Germany who felt that same way, Stone. They essentially applauded the loss of their Republic...like you seem to be doing. Laughing at the people warning against Hitler and Nazism for them...laughing at the people warning against Trump and MAGA conservatism today.

I hope we avoid this abyss.

If we don't, I pity what folk like you will feel when you realize what you have done.

I don't believe Garland is incompetent. I believe he is playing by Marcus of Queensbury rules, while Trump is kicking him in the nuts. This idiotic talk of a special prosecutor is frightening. We don't have time. Mueller suffered from the same thing. He wanted Congress to do the dirty work. Well kids, SOMEONE has to do the dirty work, and that someone is Garland. I don't give a FUCK if this looks political. Does anyone really believe the perception would change if a special prosecutor was appointed? Of course not. Trump supporters are going to kill a bunch of people, and a bunch of them will be killed. Yes, we get that. It's the price we pay for preserving democracy from this fucking haters. Trump SHOULD be indicted the day after the midterms. I don't think that's going to happen.

My advice to the hard leftists of America? Buy the best running shoes you can possibly find,....you will need them. Oh, and destroy all your little antifa shields, silly little bats, and black clothing and helmets. You will be identified anyway, but that COULD maybe buy you an extra day or so maybe.
