I'll use Umberto Eco's Ur Fascism as a guideline. In it, he lists 14 points that often are involved in fascist movements. Not every single one of these applies to Trump himself, but certainly to modern American conservatism especially in relation to "Trumpism" or MAGA.
You'd be forgiven for thinking this was written as a reaction to Trump's presidency, but it was actually written in the early 90s. Some of it is just absolutely spot on.
I posted this in response to you in another thread but because I've got time I'll go over it point by point. Editing the message as I go so bear with me.
1. Cult of Tradition could easily be paralleled by today's hard line evangelical right. It could also be exemplified in MAGA, trying to proclaim some fictional past as being universally better than today, or even the cult-like devotion to Trump himself and the shitty behavior he promotes (misogyny, hurting or cheating people that "deserve it')
2. This one's easy, and spread all throughout conservatism. The obvious hatred towards non-traditional sexual orientations, hatred of increased representation in media, to the promotion of a "traditional" family unit with stay-at-home wives et al.
3. Action for action's sake is pretty broad, and could be more of just a human flaw, but Trump and MAGA both will go out of their way to make decisions based on gut feelings and not based on reality or reason. It's part of the basis for conspiracy theories that there CAN'T be a simple explanation for something so action must be taken in opposition to reason for action's sake.
4. Another human flaw perhaps but all too often someone in MAGA claim someone is a "traitor" and hints to how traitors should be punished. MTG even had to explain her reason for saying that about Nancy Pelosi under oath.
5. Yes, another human flaw but all too easily taken advantage of by the current alt-right movement. Replacement theory, hatred of immigrants and asylum seekers, hatred of LBGTQ+, and now the Jews again (classics never die I guess).
6. Hitler blamed Jews, Trump and MAGA will blame anyone or anything that's convenient. Most of the time it's thinly veiled racism but there's also general hatred for anyone that leans slightly left. They claim America isn't "great" because they're not in complete control, "they" being mostly white males in the MAGA movement.
7. Do I really have to explain this one? LMAO
8. This has been a running theme for each political opponent since at least Obama. In one breath Obama, Hillary, or Biden can go from being so frail or stupid they're unfit to be in office or such an evil mastermind that they have to be stopped at all costs. "Libs are soy boy beta cucks! Better get an AR-15 so I can defend myself from them!"
9. Admittedly pretty broad, examples of this on the right and left.
10. A big staple of the right currently. Hatred for anyone deemed as weak, coming from people who are clearly just terribly insecure about themselves. A big aspect of toxic masculinity, you don't have value unless you're "strong".
11. A specific example of this is the wolf/sheep mentality being spread through our police departments and to any dumbass with enough money to buy a gun.
12. Pretty self explanatory.
13. Dumbasses thinking MAGA is "half the population" for instance. It's not even close. MAGA is fringe.
14. Trump's vocabulary aside, trying to simplify any issue into a slogan is very prevalent on the right. Calling anyone "groomer", "China virus" "Fauci ouchie", etc.
