Isolationism and appeasement didn’t work too well for us in the 1930’s.
The US wasn't involved with appeasement. That was a European thing. The US also didn't operate in isolation. The US declared shortly after WW 2 in Europe started the Hemispheric Defense Zone and got most Central and South American countries to go along with it as a unified defense strategy.
The US also began rearming for a war. Most spending went into infrastructure rather than weapons early on which turned out to be the smart move because that gave the US the bases and means to move all over the world.
With Japan increasing economic pressure along with giving China tens of millions (billions today) in aid and weapons drove the Japanese into a corner and they declared war on the US.
