A lot of it has to do with their equating "being smart" with "being elitist". It's a race to the bottom to see how dumb some of our elected officials can be, like John Kennedy, the Ivy-league educated Senator from Louisiana who talks in broken English with his mouth full of chew. And let us not forget about MTG and Boobert. They're popular with MAGA-idiots because they're racist idiots. Their base identifies with that and likes it.

Also, because trump's lawyers are in personal trouble for lying for him - now to them, "MAGA" means, "making attorneys get attorneys".

I don't know why anyone in their right mind would agree to represent twump after the pile of bodies he's left in his wake.
