The stunning, total defeat of ACORN

The ACORN vote in the House is stunning news. Just 48 hours after Republican Leader John Boehner introduced the "Defund ACORN Act," the bill -- which most Republicans thought Democrats would do anything to block -- passed by a resounding 345-75 vote. It would never have made it to a vote had not the Democratic leadership decided to allow it, and the winning total included 172 Democrats. Yes, 172 House Democrats voted to totally cut off funding for an organization that has worked for years on behalf of Democrats nationwide.

Couple that with the 83-7 Senate vote to cut off housing funds to ACORN -- a number that included 50 Democrats -- and the votes signal the complete collapse of Democratic support for ACORN. The job is not anywhere near finished -- the Senate still has to consider a total-cutoff bill, introduced just today by Sen. Mike Johanns, and a conference committee has to come up with a final bill that President Obama signs. At any step of the way, Democrats might decide to resume defending ACORN or give it federal support by other means. But as of today there are on-the-record votes of large majorities of House and Senate Democrats in favor of cutting off funds for ACORN.

Although Republicans had long fought against ACORN, it is not an exaggeration to say that none of this would have happened now without the BigGovernment undercover videos. Democrats who in the past had reflexively supported ACORN ran for cover after seeing ACORN employees encouraging tax evasion and prostitution. The BigGovernment videos mark an important moment in the development of alternative media sources, and official Washington responded before most of the establishment press did. This is truly an extraordinary series of events.

Still, those votes do not clearly indicate that the Democrats have begun disapproving of underage Salvadoran girls working in brothels in residential neighborhoods.

They've gotta' do more to prove to us they mean it.

The dumbasses defeated themselves. No victory for the right on this. Well no more than for the left as well to get this kind of stuff out of govt association.

Isn't this about 3 threads per day on acorn for the last few days?

They are not federally subsidized any more so give it up.

A bit of caution:

SEPTEMBER 17, 2009
HOUSE VOTES TO DEFUND ACORN. So the Senate and House have both voted. Will Obama sign?

UPDATE: Reader Kevin O’Brien smells a rat:
It’s a typical these-voters-are-such-rubes stunt; the House and Senate voted to defund ACORN on different bills.

The Senate bill is a housing bill, the House bill the federal takeover of student loans. Each bill will wind up in conference committee where the ACORN ban can be quietly stripped out, behind closed doors and secure from prying eyes. Then the org can keep on doing its important work of voter fraud and pandering to presumed pedophiles.

The most useful principle to hold close when considering members of Congress: they’re all crooks.

We’ll have to keep paying attention then.

When all is said and done....the MOST Acorn is guilty of is a lousy hiring system...which results in a lot of jokers trying to scam the paycheck with fake registrations, or these latest buffoons.

However, to date ALL the phony registers were reported by the ACORN administration themselves. And I have YET to hear of ANY phony registration by an ACORN temp employeet actually being counted in any local or national election.

Mandates to get ACORN to clean up it's employee processing system could have been done with little fanfare

Bottom line: you have another case of the neocon GOP driven media noise machine setting the pace and tone for the Dems to dance to.

Here's what Mike Doyle, one of our congressman who voted against the action, said. I tend to agree with him and Casey.

The motion was a joke because there was no funding for ACORN in the student loan bill under consideration anyway, and that republicans were using a cheap ploy to put Democrats on record in support of ACORN.

*I'm not going to be a part of this little Glenn Beck circus that decides they're going to pull stunts like this", said Mr. Doyle....

Our Sen. Bob Casy opposed the Senate measure because he said it was inconsistent--targeting only one group whose members skirted the law. "But it's a question that Congress is going to have to answer: Are we going to start banning funding for [all] entities where their employees got in trouble?"

Couldn't have put it better myself!

Can we carry this acorn logic over to churches?
We have some that promote sex with underage girls so ban em all?

lol...as if, if a reporter had video of three different churches cooperating in setting up brothels at taxpayer expense, you wouldn't be starting three threads a day about it......

So were those INDIVIDUALS were acting on express mandates by ACORN management?

Nope. No more than the individuals in the various churches.

Does the management of ACORN protect or willingly aide and abet those in their organization that breaks the law?

Nope. Because to date there is NO proof of this, ESPECIALLY when ACORN has a history of REPORTING VIOLATIONS TO THE AUTHORITIES.

However, the administrators of the Catholic Church do have a history of aiding and abetting pedophiles for DECADES.

Got that bunky?

My personal message sent to soon to be ex-Senator Casey....

Your vote to continue funding for ACORN is mind boggling...it is a kick in the face to every taxpayer in the state...in the country for that matter....it only proves you to be a partisan hack that values your socialist party above what is the right thing to do....
I'll do everything in my power to help fight your re-election....your brainless votes shows your don't deserve the trust of the people in Pennsylvania....

Everything in your power? Nothing to worry about, then.
