The situation changes markedly if Scotland tries to reenter the EU
62% of the Scottish people voted to stay in the EU. They are very unhappy to have been forced out of the EU. They might be unhappy enough to leave the UK, and try to get back into the EU alone.
One, they have a huge deficit of 22%
If Scotland became independent, it would gain the revenue from oil, and would have a surplus. The estimate of debt is based on the assumption that the oil off the north coast of Scotland belongs to the central government of the UK, and has nothing to do with Scotland.
And it is only an estimate. Scotland for the most part has no right to issue debt, so has no deficit of its own.
they won't be able to join the Eurozone and the Bank Of England will not give them any concessions regarding the pound.
Ireland went through the same thing, and somehow survived just fine. Odd how that works.
