It's hard to see how to make it happen, since if ever something were going to sway public opinion, I'd have expected it to be Sandy Hook. That event was practically designed in a laboratory to change minds, since on the very same day, in China, another deranged young man went into an elementary school intent on killing as many little kids as possible, but thanks to gun control he was armed only with a knife and not a single person was killed before he'd been subdued. You could hardly have engineered a more potent illustration, nor picked up sympathetic victims. And that didn't do it. So, if that won't what will?

I'm not ready to give up, though. We have gotten meaningful gun control in the past. The Brady Bill, for example, languished for a long time, but then was pushed through by Clinton (followed by an unprecedented decline in murder rates in the following years). Maybe there's hope.

Because the fact we have more guns in circulation than any other developed country, more guns than people, and we also have the highest rate of gun violence and gun death than other developed country, proves more guns ain’t the answer, if it was, we would be the safest developed country in the world, and we are far from it, common sense

It's going to take us getting big numbers in the fall and blowing away the filibuster. I don't see how else we can do it. Manchin and Simema will never budge.

No, it is not “melodramatic hyperbole,” rather putting the issue into real terms, not bumper sticker cliches and misunderstood “arguments” about rights and freedoms. Been listening to that bullshit for decades, ever since the gun manufacturers took over the NRA, and the facts show America all that time has been escalating into more gun deaths and more mass shootings
