Please do! It's been rather dry around here (the creek by me that is usually quite high (or overflowing) this time of year is but a piss trickle atm). The great blue herons that come by to visit me each spring could barely find a chub or two in there to eat.

We could also use some of your rain for our freshly planted crops. Don't worry, we don't let it go to waste like the SDTC does... ;)

When Texas decided to go it alone, electrically, to avoid having to deal with FERC oversight, it was a plan that relied on a certain level of home-grown competence. For a while, I guess that worked OK, because though their governors weren't always the brightest bulbs on the Christmas Tree (e.g., GW Bush), even the dumb ones effectively recognized a line between technocratic positions to be staffed by career professionals and managed apolitically, and more partisan positions to be used for patronage or posturing. But with Perry and Abbot, you've got more of that modern breed of Republican where EVERYTHING is a position to use for patronage or posturing. I'm not sure they're capable of fencing an area off from partisan politics to preserve competence, any more.

No. It owns no power generating stations. It owns no transmission lines. Those are maintained by about a dozen or so companies. ERCOT doesn't provide a single watt of electricity to anyone.

ERCOT's purpose is to be a State wide dispatcher. They are essentially a government agency. Since the directory was fired and the rest of the board quit over the mishandling of the Texas Freeze, it is now defunct. ERCOT still handles dispatching, but is now more directly overseen by the government.

ERCOT coordinates all of Texas Interconnection, and therefore provides all electricity provided to customers on the Texas Interconnection. It subcontracts out the generation, and rents the lines to deliver that electricity. When the Texas Grid fails, it is ERCOT that is responsible.

The board has been replaced. The Texas State Government does not have the ability to keep the grid working, so must use ERCOT. If ERCOT was defunct, the Texas grid would be no more.

Another problem in California is their neglect to increase reservoir capacity by enlarging existing dams and building new ones. This is resulting in a loss of hydroelectric generation because of massive water shortages the state is now facing. Again, this is entirely due to Greentard government policies.

I was in Plano all week and no mention of turning off anything. Required maintencace. Maybe this wiull drive some of the malcontent lefties out of the state. Perhaps Alabama?

ERCOT was allowed to turn off emergency equipment in an emergency. That defeats the purpose of emergency equipment, but did save ERCOT some money for a few years. They mismanaged the crisis years before the crisis happened.

Beyond that, they have planned extreme under investment in infrastructure. The USA in general has under invested in infrastructure, but Texas is so much worse. Even if ERCOT has fixed all the previous problems, this one will take decades to fix.
