Pushaw included an email from local school officials apologizing for the assignment that asked questions about the poet’s time as a prostitute and pimp, something they said came from outside the official curriculum.

It's funny how some people think a worksheet from Missouri can be found in textbooks in Florida.

Since you seem to be on the side of the "math book banners" can you tells us what the objection is to Common Core Standards, which are simply standards of proficiency students are expected to reach by the end of each grade?
I think I can appreciate why a non-learner like Donald Trump objected to them, but why do conservatives generally?

My objection to Common Core is that it has proven to not work. There is substantial evidence that it hurts kid's learning. That it's being abandoned almost uniformly across the US now in both red and blue states, more than confirms that. It was just another fad in education like say, "New math" in the 70's. With Common Core, sensible and educated people who were outside the education establishment recognized quickly how stupid it was and began to complain. It took about a decade of failure to get the education types in academia to realize it and accept defeat.
Common Core also was not "simply standards of proficiency." It changed often radically, the way subjects were to be taught. Math in particular was egregiously badly taught using Common Core.
It was insanities like this that parents and well-educated persons in the 'real' world found objectionable:
