The Republican party is now monolithic IMHO. If you aren't with the Trump cult, you are ostracized. The Republicans I'm talking about are now the mainstream of the party.

Navigating through a black and white world is easier than dealing with too many shades of gray--especially for elderly people like myself.
I'm not personally planning to kill anybody, so don't get overly concerned with my venting.

I just find it totally incomprehensible how so many people vote in direct conflict with their own economic best interests.
I suspect that the difficulties of a culturally diverse society magnify the problem in a way that wouldn't occur with greater homogeneity.
That's merely a suspicion, however. I haven't the motivation to devote my remaining days to study and research.

They would rather have Putin as a dictator than Biden as President. They think the only thing they can do to protect themselves is to buy assault rifles. They pray to Jesus because they hope he will forgive their dishonesty, their cowardice, and the hatred of poor people. Sadly, they may win the day, but like most scared little scumbags, they won't have any more than their 15 minutes, and then they can be flushed down the toilet along with the rest of the disgusting scumbags. Hopefully I'll be around to see it.

People will always find ways to tribalize. There never is a truly "homogeneous" society. Even if everyone where white and straight, people would fight over religion. If everyone were the same religion, we would argue over something else. Maybe gingers or blondes would be ostracized. Maybe the handicapped would be scorned.

I find it incomprehensible that people still believe voting will somehow change the status quo. Biden kept almost all of Trump's policies and started a proxy war with Russia. Plus he stole our covid relief funds and gave it to weapons manufacturers.

Foreclosures are about to make 2.5 million children homeless under Biden's watch.

San Francisco is a great example. There are no Republicans here. Republicans can rarely even put up candidates for any local offices. Everyone who runs here is a Democrat. And these folks probably agree on 90% of things on a national level. They all hate Trump, think global warming is an existential crisis etc. etc. But when it comes to local politics they call it a blood sport here. It's brutal. We're going to have two local City recall elections (Board of Education and the DA) of sitting Democrats and its Democrats who started/backed the recall.

So yes, even if some people got there wish and everyone of the opposite party died or left the country it would not be kumbaya. The remaining folks would just re-tribalize.

My mom has that fear. It's crazy to me because they don't bother me at all. But now that she's elderly I feel so badly when she has to get one. I usually go with her.

Nevertheless, people from more homogeneous nations have the solidarity to do more things collectively than we do.
It helps to explain why in a time where universal socialized medicine is the standard for the civilized world, we don't have it.
It helps to explain why private sector unions don't have the clout that they do in other nations.

Occupying what's possibly the best tract of real estate on the planet helped America
survive for over two hundred forty years with the most inefficient form of government known on the planet.
But it's all unravelling now.

I loved San Francisco but my favorite hangout, Lefty O'Doul's, closed. It's also a tough town for an old man to walk--not very flat unless you stay by the ocean.
