Ending Daylight Savings

What do people think about this?

I really hate the time changes, and it takes me about two weeks to really adjust. I know, what can I say? I feel like I would love this, but I have seen parents of young schoolchildren arguing that it will be too dark walking to the bus stops during the winter. Especially for working parents whose kids walk by themselves.

I never even thought there'd be a possibility of them ending this in my lifetime. People have talked about it for years.

I really dont like that states are doing their own thing here, this should be a national decision.

^^^ Chinese collectivist authoritarianism at work ^^^

There is energy savings by changing hours but simply flip-flopping from opening at 8AM and 9AM does the same thing.

After seeing all the whining about this on Twitter, I've decided to be happy about it. I'm really tired of all the whining about everything.

Totally in favor. Never made sense to me.
There's talk of Massachusetts and Maine moving to Atlantic Time Zone with Maritimes and Bermuda, however.
We're at the extreme eastern edge of the Eastern Time Zone so days are shorter all year.

They have kept DST in place in the past during energy crunches.

And there has been talk of keeping it going as far back as the 70s.

I think the origins had something to do with farmers.

I live on the farthest western edge of the eastern time zone.......most people south of me are in the central zone.........on the 4th of July they can't start the fireworks display until after 9:30 because it isn't dark enough to see them.........

I hate the time changes too. The fall one isn't so bad but the spring one takes me a long time to adjust to, also. Why did they choose to make it permanently Savings time rather than Standard? It puts us out of sync with the rest of the world, for one thing. We live pretty far north, so it means that winter sunrises won't happen till 9:30am. Poor kids standing out there in the frigid cold, waiting for their school bus in the dark.

I do not care which way they do it, I just want the change the stop. Ill adjust accordingly.

Count me as one who doesn’t have strong feelings one way or the other. I’m with you in my body hating this time change. But I also get the reasons it was instituted. If we get rid of it I won’t shed any tears but not going to be upset either if it stays.

I actually have a Twitter friend threatening not to vote in the midterms if this passes. I just can't imagine getting so passionate about this, for or against.

I support this:

Make DST permanent.

This has been done once before and even became law once. It was discarded in less than a year. It was signed into law by Pres. Ford.

Doesn't make sense for Hawaii, for example. They are on the tropic line. BTW, it IS a national discussion. This is about the law in place at the federal level (which allows States and even cities to exclude themselves from it).
