Vastly outmatched by Russia's military, in terms of raw numbers and firepower, Ukraine's own air force is still flying and its air defenses are still deemed to be viable - a fact that is baffling military experts.

After the opening salvos of the war on Feb. 24, analysts expected the Russian military to try to immediately destroy Ukraine's air force and air defenses.

That would have been "the logical and widely anticipated next step, as seen in almost every military conflict since 1938," wrote the RUSI think-tank in London, in an article called "The Mysterious Case of the Missing Russian Air Force."

planes are expensive, vlad wants to harvest them.

but he really did need to have special forces take out air defense command first ands no idea why that didnt happen.

Nato is targeting Russian planes for Ukraine, let's not forget that. But yes, the "experts" cant even yet figure out what Xi and Putin are doing.

I'm not convinced by the media reports.

As is typical, Russia's military is having real difficulty with what is becoming a guerilla war. Ukraine isn't as easy a pushover as they thought it would be.

Various reports on Twitter is that they have been active, but they are small and resources limited, but hopefully improving.

A guerrilla war with Ukrainians will be worse than Afghanistan, because they will be better re-enforced.

Why the Ukrainians aren't hitting that convoy in the narrows with their air force is beyond me.

Not sure they have much of an air force left, any that could fly would most likely be shot down. The Turkish drones would come in very handy though. I must admit that I was astonished that the Ukrainians were able to get their hands on them.

Haven't the NATO countries given them some fighter jets?

Allegedly but I doubt it somehow. They are too scared of being dragged into the war. There are many old MiG 29s that could be used but anti-tank weapons and radar jamming equipment are probably more useful.
