James Webb IR telescope successfully launched

I am a little surprised that the WOKE have been unable to change the name.

They are not at all happy.

That makes it seem like this might be a $10 billion dud even if it makes it where it is supposed to go.

Let's hope not.

There are several systems that will be deployed at the L2 Lagrangian point besides the JWT.

The L2 point is rapidly establishing itself as a pre-eminent location for advanced spaceprobes and ESA has a number of missions that will make use of this orbital 'sweet-spot' in the coming years. L2 will become home to ESA missions such as Herschel, Planck, Eddington, Gaia, the James Webb Space Telescope and Darwin.

Absolutely. Hubble proved that our "ROCKET SCIENTISTS" ain't so smart after all.

Help me out ... how are James Webb and woke connected ... ???

LOL More proof you never served.

The claim is controversial but appears that Webb is innocent of wrong doing. IMO, it's using 2020's standards to judge people in 1963...right after the Cuban Missile Crisis. Homosexuality was a disqualifier for a Secret or higher security clearance just like a lot of debt because it opened the individual to blackmail by the Soviets or Chinese.

NASA's planned James Webb Space Telescope, originally known as the Next Generation Space Telescope, was renamed in Webb's honor in 2002. This telescope, launched on December 25, 2021, is described as the successor to the Hubble Space Telescope.[22]

In March 2021, a commentary in Scientific American urged NASA to rename the James Webb Space Telescope, alleging that Webb had been complicit in the State Department's purge of LGBTQ individuals from the federal workforce.[23][24] In July 2021, a related telescope renaming article appeared in the journal Nature.[25][26] Scientists who opposed naming the telescope in Webb's honor pointed to the case of NASA budget analyst Clifford Norton, who in 1963 was accused of homosexual behavior, arrested and fired, with NASA calling his suspected conduct "immoral, indecent, and disgraceful". While critics argued that it would have been difficult for Webb not to be aware of these proceedings, direct evidence did not come to light.[27] Astrophysicist Hakeem Oluseyi wrote an article saying that the initial accusations that Webb was part of the Lavender Scare were based on a quote attributed to Webb which he never said, and that there is little to no evidence Webb took part in anti-gay discrimination.[27] On September 30, 2021, NASA announced that it would keep the JWST name after running an investigation and finding "no evidence at this time that warrants changing the name".

The Webb is a truly wonderful feat of engineering - and human exploitation.
Its architects persuaded those that control the purse-strings that humanity wanted to see and know the state of creation almost at the Om point and that lives would be improved by being able to detect events nonillion km away. The greater part of humanity, in actual fact, couldn't give a monkey's toss and most of those that have even heard of Pluto think it's a Disney dog.
So we have this massive gap between ultra-advanced astrophysics and people at large, a titanic Ponzi scheme that milks the planet, its people and its resources for the benefit of.............who and what ?

C'mon, let's see who's thought about it beyond following the ' growth and progress ' carrot.

Benefits Stemming from Space Exploration
More than fifty years of human activity in space have produced societal benefits that improve
the quality of life on Earth. The first satellites, designed to study the space environment and
test initial capabilities in Earth orbit, contributed critical knowledge and capabilities for
developing satellite telecommunications, global positioning, and advances in weather
forecasting. Space exploration initiated the economic development of space that today, year
after year, delivers high returns for invested funds in space1
. The challenges of space
exploration have sparked new scientific and technological knowledge of inherent value to
humankind, leading to better understanding of our Universe and the solar system in which we
live. Knowledge, coupled with ingenuity, provides people around the globe with solutions as
well as useful products and services. Knowledge acquired from space exploration has also
introduced new perspectives on our individual and collective place in the Universe.
Future space exploration goals call for sending humans and robots beyond Low Earth Orbit and
establishing sustained access to destinations such as the Moon, asteroids and Mars. Space
agencies participating in the International Space Exploration Coordination Group (ISECG)2 are
discussing an international approach for achieving these goals, documented in ISECG's Global
Exploration Roadmap3
. That approach begins with the International Space Station (ISS), and
leads to human missions to the surface of Mars.
Employing the complementary capabilities of both humans and robotic systems will enable
humankind to meet this most ambitious space exploration challenge, and to increase benefits
for society. These benefits can be categorized into three fundamental areas: innovation; culture
and inspiration; and new means to address global challenges.

Yes, that's NASA's PR department milking-machinery maintenance manual. A useful comment but... any actual thoughts ?

Seems like I remember that NASA lost a Mars probe because of the same kind of sloppy BS.....it crashed into Mars at high speed.

It is claimed that James Webb was not morally fit to have something named after him, it is claimed because he once said something to the effect that he was not a fan of gays, but the real reason I suspect is because he was a white guy. The fact that he did such an awesome job of running NASA is irrelevant to these fucks.
