The Backfire Effect

this is also how dixie doesn't understand the concept of 1/3rd, or how when we say that man and corn have a common ancestor, it doesn't mean we are saying we descended from corn. the examples are endless.

Yeah, Dixie is basically exhibit A.

i'll still read more later...however, you and watermark indicated in the beginning "conservatives"....as if this applied to all conservatives....that was my main point...that has now been cleared up

and maineman...you don't own this board so you can STFU about where i should go....

got it, good

oh...do stick around... you're way to much fun to lose you to some other board!:pke:

Obama's birth certificate is back in the news this week, did you hear? That's a PERFECT example of this effect. The more you show Dixie pictures of the certificate, the more closely he clings to his belief that it's not valid.

in this case you're wrong, it is not the certifcate at all, but a copy of the certification, there is a difference

... issued by the state with a raise seal and everything. Who the hell has the original certificate from the day of their birth? I lost mine long ago. And you know what? The government recognizes reissues from the state as perfectly valid proof of citizenship.

i never said the certification isn't valid, but it is not a certificate

and obama has the original on file according to HI

and you need to read the HI revised codes to understand the difference between the two...he is a citizen, but saying he has given a copy of the certificate is not valid.

i gave the report a very brief skim (told ib1 i would) and will try to read more later

it appears that for that study and sample of people the report is correct, i noted numerous caveats in the report however....so i was wrong to outright reject it without further reading...i thought it was a poll like study

It confirms what we all knew to be the case after debating on these boards for about six years now. Facts mean zilch, and often times exposing them is counter productive. Try reading through some of the threads with Dixie about evolution and you'll see precisely what I mean.

dude, it is not as sweeping as you would like to make it....it applied to that sample...and there were plenty of caveats...i'm sure if someone else does a study and shows the same thing but reverse ideologies you will wholeheartedly support it....right

and you continually insisting the certification is the same as the certificate is an example of liberals acting that way....you went to so far as to claim the original probably doesn't exist when it does....you kept refusing to accept the reality and fought me more and more on the issue :)

:gives: about his birth certificate? He has more problems to deal with just by his actions since he has become President.

I have my original birth certificate and it's locked up in my safe-deposit box.

This study showed that it would not and does not happen in reverse.

My guess is you're full of shit. There's no way anyone can say if Obama has the original unless he shows the original. Failing to produce the original is evidence that he doesn't have the original, not that he has it and doesn't want you to see it.

Also, nitpicking over whether the "certification of birth" counts as a "birth certificate" is totally and utterly retarded. The fact is he has proven his citizenship as much as he needs to. The burden of proof now lies on the loons who want to say he's not constitutionally eligible for office.

Good for you. I don't, and I don't need it. I can get a certification from the state whenever I need to prove my citizenship.

i was the one that gave ib1 and watermark the link O_O

Grind is an open-minded conservative. He likes to call himself liberal-leaning, but he's really only liberal-leaning in his attitude. He is very right-wing, policy wise, to the point where it sometimes it suprises me and IB1 (this is when we're not having mutual masturbation sessions), but we get along well.

Grind always gets my right hand, and you always get the left.

We should decry the enduring political strength of the health care lobby, which led all other sectors in donations to federal candidates during the last election cycle.

The sector gave nearly $170 million to federal lawmakers in 2007 and 2008, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

These contributions have been focused on legislators whose votes could prove crucial in the final health care reform vote, as well as the leaders of five key committees leading the debate.

Michigan Republican Dave Camp received nearly $1 million.

Iowa Republican Charles Grassley has received more than $2 million from the health and insurance sectors since 2003.

Most of these companies, particularly major insurers, strongly oppose a public insurance option, which is favored by President Obama and Democrats.
