Dawning of Britain's 'new nuclear age'

No profit in civil aircraft engines anymore, maggot ?

They're also planning an electric car for 2003 that only multi-millionaires can afford. Environmental vandals . We're watching them.

I am a huge supporter of nuclear power... BUT, I have to admit that the UK especially announces a "new age of nuclear power" every year or two. Mostly they come to nothing. I would like to see them complete Hinkley Point C first, and then we can talk.

A planned new generation of mini nuclear reactors could protect Britain from future energy crises. Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng is poised to approve funding for British engineering giant Rolls-Royce to create a fleet of mini-reactors.

the point is nuclear is the only large scale long term reliable alternative to carbon-fueled power
gigawatt capable stable power production

Just read the article. Nuclear power should have been more dominant by now world-wide. Hopefully, things come together for the Brits.

Absolutely. Nuclear is the only choice if you really want to get as close to zero on carbon from energy production as you can. Wind and solar are a complete bust. They're so expensive and unreliable they'll never work other than as niche sources.

Once they get tooled up and the assembly line is in place a matter of years. However there are the regulatory hurdles to climb. The consortium aims to be the first design to be assessed by UK regulators, in the second half of this year, which will "keep it on track" to complete its first unit in the early 2030s and build up to 10 by 2035.

Please bear in mind that NuScale have already been granted a licence to operate.

NRC INTERACTION

In August 2020, NuScale reached a significant regulatory milestone with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). We made history as the company with the first ever small modular reactor (SMR) to receive NRC design approval—signaling to the world that NuScale is truly the U.S. leader in the race to bring SMRs to market. The NRC completed Phase 6 review—the last and final phase—of NuScale’s Design Certification Application (DCA) with the issuance of the Final Safety Evaluation Report (FSER). In September 2020, the NRC issued Standard Design Approval, which means that customers can move forward with plans to develop NuScale power plants, knowing that safety aspects of the NuScale design are NRC-approved.
