"Today, Texas House Democrats stand united in our decision to break quorum and refuse to let the Republican-led legislature force through dangerous legislation that would trample on Texans' freedom to vote," a statement from House Democratic leaders said.

Good. Do whatever it takes to keep the dying, white majority from disenfranchising the rest of us. While Republicans can only win by cheating, Democrats continue to use the rules of the game to gain advantage. They're stupid; but I support their move in this case.

I'm wondering if the Texas GQP reps plan on issuing arrest warrants like they did in Wisconsin.....

In February 2011, 14 Democratic members of the Wisconsin State Senate did not come to a scheduled legislative session to prevent a vote on right-to-work legislation. The walkout came amidst protests by 25,000 people at the state capitol over the legislation.[16] Republicans held 19 seats, three short of the 22 members needed for quorum on legislation with fiscal implications.

Wisconsin Senate Republicans ordered the arrest of the absent lawmakers, issuing warrants and giving state police the authority to detain and return the senators. The Democratic caucus remained in Illinois for the duration of the walkout, out of the state police's jurisdiction.

The walkout ended after five weeks when Republicans removed fiscal provisions from the right-to-work legislation to lower the quorum needed for a vote and pass the legislation. The Democrats returned three days after the legislation passed.

It is the D's who are refusing to follow either rules or decency here. This is what America not working looks like. This is what they do in Banana Republics.

I'm sure that the Texan GQP is already lighting crosses on fire in the front yards of the Democratic legislators. I think unenforceable arrest warrants will be issued.

This is what happens to a country that is changing drastically. This is what happens when the status quo becomes aggravated to the potential detriment of a class of people who have always enjoyed privilege while never earning it. There is no valid reason in the world -- and you know it -- to make it more difficult for people to vote. There are no voting security concerns. There is nothing to be accomplished from disenfranchising Americans -- you un-American cunt -- except to attempt to perpetuate that class's privilege. That makes you uncomfortable because you benefit from that privilege. I don't give a fuck. The reckoning is here, Hawk.

Gamesmanship is something I loathe compared to statesmanship, but we are talking about saving voting. Voting about making voting unfair
is worth fighting for, most any procedural BS is justifiable.

You ignorant bitch.

The bill is almost a thousand pages long. I don't have time to search it right now.

However, the bills make mail in voting more difficult (ID requirements, opt-in requirements, etc.), which is about the dumbest fucking thing in electoral politics I have ever heard. They make voting in person more difficult (no drive throughs, shortened eligible hours, etc.), which is what happens in the countries that your toothless ass calls "shitholes".

You shouldn't want to make it more difficult for any American citizen to vote unless you're a pasty ass geriatric who hasn't had an independent thought for decades.

This is what happens when far too many people are of shit quality. Getting up and leaving the game because you dont like how that game is going, demanding that the rules be changed so that you wont lose, is poor sportsmanship. This is civility breaking down. Buckle Up.

I don't think they have a choice. This is not the naming of a school or a budget bill. This is about taking away the right to vote -- from Americans. There is nothing more important, for legislators, than to resist the Republican party's death throes.

I can smell your bullshit from outer space. Not only do I know that you're a drug addict who stumbles around online forums at the most inopportune times, but I also know that you fake conservatives don't have a pinky toe to stand on when it comes to statesmanship and sportsmanship.

You pussies are the people who stole two Supreme Court chairs, attempted a coup, shit on the US Capitol, and derailed American politics until our very deaths. You are the most shit quality people that have ever existed in American history. So buckle up, you country bitch. Your end is now.

Like petulant six-year-olds throwing a tantrum, this is what Democrats do when they don't get their way. They've done it before in other states. There have been a few cases of Republicans doing this too, but far less regularly than Democrats.
When the Republicans do walk out, the Democrats get really nastily upset. They are almost universally and instantly willing to use force of law to track down and force Republicans to return so they can get their way. Republicans are less virulent in their actions to bring Democrats back.

On a related note... Isn't this really just a form of a filibuster? I thought Democrats were against this practice. Hypocrites anyone?

Bigger goal isn't to stop the vote, one way or another it will happen, but to draw even more attention of Texas' attempt to control the vote

They might be able to keep TX red for another decade, but the damage they are doing to their society will be remembered. I guess this is the hill (along with Trump) that the Republican party dies on.
