If America is not a racist country, then why does Nimrata Randhawa go by Nikki Haley?

I never denigrated Nimrata.

Yes you did when you said that it was "too difficult for English speakers to pronounce and remember".

That's denigration, and insulting, and racist.

You are obviously unfamiliar with young children.

How is "Nimrata" hard to pronounce, Flash? It's phonetic.

You were denigrating Nikki Haley by suggesting she was trying to "trick" voters.

Which she is. She hasn't won an election since 2014.

By the time she ran for governor I'm sure most people in S.C. knew she was a woman of Indian heritage.

So that's another one of your typical and habitual bad faith Flash assumptions.

Or, maybe she used Nikki because it is on her birth certificate.

But not from birth, as the Snopes article says.

So she chose to use "Nikki" for the very racist reasons you displayed for us on this thread. She went by "Nikki" instead of "Nimrata" not because "Nimrata" is harder to pronounce, but because "Nimrata" sounds too foreign. And why does it sound too foreign? Because America is a racist country.

Well her family chose to call her Nikki...why is that even an issue?

No, they chose to call her Nimrata, they didn't start calling her "Nikki" until later.

The reason why is because America is a racist country, as Flash and Cawacko have shown for us on this thread.

They named her Nimrata Nikki....They call her Nikki....

More LV426 lies. We were talking about for kids since someone posted she began using that name as a kid.

And why did she use that name as a kid? For the very racist reasons you gave: that America is too racist a country to phonetically pronounce the name "Nimrata".

However, since that name is on her birth certificate maybe that is why she used it.

You said why she used it: because America is too racist to pronounce the name "Nimrata". That's what you said.

You are the only one who suggested she was trying to trick voters by using that name.

Of course she was, and you helpfully made that point for me when you pointed out that Democratic Indian Reps didn't change their names, yet won their elections.

The reason why they won wasn't because of their names, but because the policies they propose have broad support among the electorate.

Nothing Nimrata proposes or believes has broad support among the electorate, which is why she didn't use her real name, like all the others did. That would have been a level playing field, where she would have been disadvantaged because her beliefs and policies don't have broad support. It's why Barack Obama didn't campaign as Barry Obama.

So she needs to find voters another way.

You naively believe other Americans do not know some people are prejudiced and therefore think you have to keep telling us. We know! Drop your liberal guilt and move on.

OK, so if I'm following you, now you're saying there are racist people in America, and those racist people are why Nimrata felt she had to go by Nikki, but that doesn't mean America is a racist country, and you articulating that doesn't mean you're racist?

How so?

I suggested one reason for using Nikki might be the difficulty for children to pronounce longer, unfamiliar names..

Which was a racist reason from a racist apologist because Nimrata contains no silent letters (unlike Nikki, which does), is only two letters longer and one syllable longer, and is pronounced phonetically.

And you make the assumption that Anglo-Saxon names are the cultural norm, but they're not, and making that assumption is fucking racist as shit.

You notice he said the reason other Indians with difficult names could get elected without "tricking" the voters by changing their name was because they lived in liberal districts.

I never said that.

What I said was that they didn't change their names because their policies and beliefs have strong support among the electorate, whereas Haley's doesn't.

The implication is that only conservatives are racist.

No, that is your inference, and you're making that inference because you realized how racist you are, and are desperate to bOtHsIdEs it so you don't have to reconcile it.

Because you're a coward.

It's pretty obvious to me she made the switch to a more "American" sounding name as a kid for the exact same reason Piyush, aka ""Bobby" Jindal picked a boring "normal" name when he was a kid.

Because 1970s southern redneck kids will be relentlessly cruel to anyone who looks foreign and has a weird name.

You even have adult conservatives on this thread in the year 2021 mocking her name.

They named her Nimrata Nikki....They call her Nikki....

The fact that she ditched her native Sikh faith and converted to Christianity as a young adult indicates this is about more than just a benign preference for a name change.

Abandoning the given name your parents gave you, and ditching your Sikh faith for Christianity has all the hallmarks of an immigrant trying to subdue their ethnic heritage and conform to the cultural expectations of the backwards American south of the 20th century.

Another one who doesn't understand the assignment and who wants to whitewash the casual American racism that forced Nimrata Randhawa to go by Nikki Haley.

You failed badly in this thread. No conservative cares why she changed her name.

Like those other Louisiana names--Thibodeaux, Boudreaux, Hebert, Fontenot, LeBlanc....

But several conservatives in this thread openly indicated the name Nimrata was worthy of mockery and humiliation.

LV426 is the poster who originally brought up Haley using the name on her birth certificate. He must think there is a problem using Nimrata. Nobody else thought that was an issue.

Pure unwarranted speculation that Hayley was "forced" to change her name.

I never said the U.S. was a racist country. Just pointing out all your examples of Indian American politicians are Democrats elected in liberal districts.

And none of them saw it necessary to change their names to get elected.

Pure unwarranted speculation that Hayley was "forced" to change her name.

You gave the exact reason why, Flash, when you articulated that America is so racist, a phonetic name like "Nimrata" is too difficult for you to pronounce or remember.

Not sure how it is hard to pronounce or remember, though. You haven't explained that.
