I'll use this as an example. Remember when Biden said if you vote for Trump you ain't black? He didn't say here's why you should vote for me if you're black or here's why you shouldn't vote for Trump if you black, that would all be a regular part of politics. But he said you ain't black. Think about that. Would he, or anyone, ever say you ain't white based on voting for a Republican or Democrat? Not that's I'm aware of.
Same thing here. Plenty of people use their middle name or go by a nickname. But somehow it's not acceptable for Haley to do so? It's transparent to me.

Agreed. I'm sure the people of South Carolina knew Haley was Indian; yet, they voted for her, anyway. She didn't fool them by using her middle name and taking her husband's name. Her race (or gender) did not prevent her election.
