Bullshit. There are members of this forum who want to ban all guns. There are politicians advocating banning certain guns and mandating an "Australian-form" of gun control. I.E. mandatory buyback, which is LW code for confiscation.

One little thing about those stats. 1.4 million suicide attempts and 48,000 successful attempts.
That means the average suicide attempt is successful 3.4% of the time
Attempted suicide by gun is successful about 90% of the time while making up 5% of attempts.
Your source says half of successful suicides are with firearms.
Purely from a statistics standpoint, eliminating guns would eliminate over 20,000 successful suicides since other methods are not nearly as effective.

Don't you think eliminating 40-50% of suicides is a goal you would be happy to achieve? Or do results not really count?

They kill themselves with guns. It makes desperate acts more efficient. Since we do not want to invest sufficiently in mental health, we will just watch people kill themselves and brag about how they can get guns so easily. The government should demand everyone have a gun. Do you know how much safer that would make America?

Show me the evidence of most Democrats saying they don't care about suicide deaths and I'll stop referring to the remark as a cheap-shot baseless claim.

Obviously that's not happening, so instead there's all this diversionary nonsense.

An unsupported claim has been made. It appears to be without merit.

In addition, I am a Democrat and I do care. My impression in talking to other Democrats is that Democrats do indeed care about lives. Suicide rates are an indication of how many lives are lives of desperation. There is a lot of despair in America. It is directly related to financial well being and extreme American wealth inequality. Republicans have a distinct "I Got Mine The Hell With You" attitude that hurts our country and causes despair and suicide.

The correct way to look at society is a realization that by helping others, we help ourselves. What is good for society benefits everyone. A rising tide lifts all boats. We need better social programs to help people rise above poverty. We need to end racism that cuts people off from financial success. This IGMTHWY attitude causes impoverished economic dead zones which limit the productivity of the nation. Imagine if all those impoverished people had well-paying productive jobs. The productivity of the nation would soar and people would be happy and more satisfied with their lives.

Parents who can't make ends meet are under a lot of stress. Sometimes that gets taken out on the kids. Even if it doesn't, the air of despair filters down. It is very difficult to have a happy life when one does not know where their next meal is coming from, or doesn't have enough money to even pay all the bills.

Since you've proved to be disingenuous, why should I believe you'll stop there? Let's say you ban all semi-automatic, removable magazine rifles and high capacity magazines.

What happens when someone commits mass murder with a bolt action sniper rifle like the Texas Tower shooter or blows away ten people in a Walmart with a shotgun. Will you be advocating better mental health care then or will you be advocating to "ban those evil guns"?

If a 10 round magazine limit is good, isn't a 5-round magazine limit better according to Democratic ideology?
