Another reason we need to change attitudes about mental illness so that people realize that if they identify a friend or family member that has obvious signs of serious mental illness that they are willing to either get them some professional help or inform the authorities so that they can get them the help if needed. You would think people would want to get someone help before they either harm themselves or others, many people with issues can be treated and live long and productive lives. Sadly we attach too much of a stigma to mental illness and hence why many do not seek help for themselves or those they know and until that changes we will continue to repeat awful news over and over.
