What will mean success for the teaparty turnout?

I, for one, applaud people taking time out to protest.

The world is run by those who show up. Whether you agree with their cause or not, their actions are preferable to sitting around doing nothing.

These tea parties are being organized by Fox News and funded by millionaires (read: astroturf) to protest what exactly? Tax rates going back up to a level still about ten points lower then existed under Reagan. Tools, all.

It's not just tax rates you dishonest fucks. It's the bailouts as well.

I agree with that. I preach paticipatory citizenship.

However, cloaking your cause in "tea party" transforms your cause into joke status. You might as well have stayed home sitting on your ass.

.. and before you announce your "big thing" you'd best be sure you have a "big thing."

There are more intelligent ways to go about protest.

... which is just as fucking retarded. The bailouts should have had more strings attached, but jesus Christ. If the banking sector had ben allowed to collapse, you'd be standing in a fucking soup line right now. So the same people who STILL to this day will argue and scowl when someone suggests regulating the banking industry to prevent such things in the future are gathering to protest the action the government had to take because they refused to regulate the industry adequately BEFORE it happened.

I hope some terrorism goes down today and ends these people.

To them it seems to be a big thing.

Many of them are socialists who are just too smart to call themselves that.

Some are, some are liberal, but most are centrists.

Socialism is still a dirty word in America .. which is why the right loves to paint everybody they don't like with it.

I'm the only openly socialist here, but I don't attempt to sell socialism to anybody .. because I don't have to.

To them it seems to be a big thing.

It's a hissy-fit.

It's desperation from people watching their ideology slipping away.

I believe in calling it what it is.

I believe in putting a boot to right-wing conservative ideology as it's on its way out the door.

It's an ideology that has never supported or benefitted anything I cherish or hold dear. In fact, it has been a mortal enemy.

BOOT up the ass on its way out the door.

Bac, are you really this unrealistic? Take a step back and breathe.

Every time the presidency changes hands people are alternately declaring the death of liberalism or the death of conservatism. I thought you were smarter than that.

The Republicans will be back in power within 6-8 years at most. The pendulum swings in cycles. Enjoy this cycle, but remember that it isn't forever. You only make yourself look shortsighted by claiming that this is the end of the Republican Party and conservatism. The same has been said many times for both ideologies and the ones who say it are inevitably proven wrong by time.

Oh bullshit. The Republicans have not dominated for ONLY 8 years. They have had near dictatorial control over American policy since 1980, even when the pussy Democrats were "in power", and have ruined us since then. They all deserve to be taken out back and shot.

Republicans will stick around a bit longer, but on their present course, their demise is inevitable. Even many republicans believe that.

Who are they going to sell it to?

They do not have the ability to adapt to rapidly changing demographics.

Normally, I'd agree with you .. but methinks times, they be a'changin'.

Lots of people don't have the ability to change quickly, that's why we have these things called borders, to protect the standard of living from rapid shifts due to corporatist labor market manipulations. Both parties just want the votes and don't really care about the impact on current citizens.

it's sad to see liberal democrats, allegedly the champions of the poor, degrading wages and standards further to please corporations and grow their tax base, regardless of the consequences to the american worker.

Dude the turnout was small.

24/7 news coverage and they could not draw very many Americans into protesting.

The people that showed up are very obviously a tiny fraction of the US population.

That by definition is FRINGE.

You are a part of the right wing Fringe.

kinda whimpy huh guys.

Face it you are the right wing fringe.
Silliness. When war protests first began the groups were smaller (way smaller than this), over time they increased. Pretending that the crowds, among a group that almost never protests, were insignificant is just pretense. Over 5000 people gathered in Denver alone, with well over 2000 of these events across the nation, the numbers are more impressive than you want them to be.

So less than one percent of the population of Denver came out? That's not very impressive at all. I mean, I understand that you want to temper expectations with the "a group that almost never protests" nonsense, but please.

I agree, Malkin.

Again,

If that is your measure then war protests in Denver were never impressive until waaay later in the game, shoot they never reached even those numbers until later. I'd call this a "good start" and far more impressive than you want them to be.
