Biden Plans Cuba Reset

Russia is close and the Cold War was over years ago according to Obama..So we need to have full and open relations with Russia

Russia is still violating international rules, such as invading Ukraine.
But really, this is just a #deflection because you can't defend the Cuba embargo.

"President-elect Joe Biden’s team plans to bring the U.S. closer to normalized relations with Cuba, reversing many of the sanctions and regulations imposed during the Trump administration, according to people familiar with the matter."

This makes sense to me. I liked it when Obama tried it.

Cuban mulatto women are renowned for their slimness and beauty A few years on, wall to wall fast food outlets will soon turn them into proper American lardarses.

So then you agreed with Obama's decision to end the embargo. Good to know.

I'd say it makes no difference. Cuba is an irrelevance. It's less important than say, Panama. Cuba has nothing the US needs as imports and isn't much of an export market because it's all but broke.

Why was it the Republican plan to open free trade with China & not Cuba?

Can we just admit that Republicans are dopes, and get it over with?

Because Cuba is a crappy market at best for trade, as are all the islands in the Caribbean.

I'll admit you're a dope, because you keep posting stuff that's just, put bluntly, stupid like this one. Five minutes of research on Caribbean trade would have showed you that other than tourism, and even that being a low value market, the Caribbean offers little to nothing in terms of trade.

It didn't with China, and that was a main argument for allowing them into the WTO
realpolitik is a much simpler, sound argument

That's true. But Cuba is right next door to us and it's better being 'friends' than 'enemies'.

I am sorry but that just not true, their pharma industry is world class and with decent investment could become huge. It wouldn't be long before Americans would be going there for elective surgery as well.

Lol, yeah opening trade with China was brilliant.

Propping up a hostile genocidal regime, at the expense of American workers.

Republicans are dopes.

Right, like the USA is morally superior over Cuba.

14 - 30 million killed in USA wars since WW2.

Cuba killed like 30 thousand, and their awful?

They also have a superior free healthcare system in place for every citizen along with free education thru college.

This has got to be one of the stupidest posts ever! The Cuban government has killed political prisoners and others that oppose the government, as do many violent and vicious dictatorships. The US was at war with Germany and Japan--a war that those countries started with the US. What was the US supposed to do, talk to them nicely and ask them to not be at war? Since then, let's see:

Korea: A vicious thug led Communist regime in North Korea invaded South Korea. The UN voted to intervene and the US led a coalition of forces to stomp them into the ground. The Chinese then got involved--unilaterally--and expanded the war. How is that the US's fault?

Vietnam: The US only got involved because LBJ was a lying, sack-of-shit President that used the phony Gulf of Tonkin incident to expand it. Up to that point US involvement was very limited. Nixon then got the US out of that debacle. But it did save Thailand, Malaysia, and Indochina from ending up with brutal Communist dictatorships that would have wrecked those countries.

The Dominican Civil war: Eisenhower was right to stomp the Communists in this one. The Dominican Republic is better for it too, unlike Cuba...

The Gulf War(s): Saddam brought that on himself by invading Kuwait

Afghanistan: Harboring Al Qaeda was a big mistake. The US had every right to retaliate against international terrorism.

So, there's no equivalence between Cuba killing political opposition and what the US has done post WW 2.

It wasn't at the time it was done in the 1970's. China only became a serious economic market with the demise of old school Communism and a move to a Fascist Statist-Capitalist government. It doesn't matter that they call themselves "Communists." They aren't. They're Fascists and they are practicing statist-capitalism.

Their pharma industry has done a few breakthroughs but they simply don't have the wherewithal to be a major player. If they opened up trade their whole pharma operation would be swallowed up by international corporations in a heartbeat and that would be that.

They don't have to allow themselves to be taken over by a ruthless pharma company like Pfizer. You really ought to read up on the remarkable strides they've made in biotech, especially with Interferon Alfa-2B, in partnership with the Chinese. This is an opportunity to cut out the Chinese and grow their business. I would much prefer for them to go with the likes of AZN to be honest than a US pharma company.
