CA isn’t helping my mask skepticism

Most European countries have a death rate per million far less than the US. The only exceptions are Italy, Spain, France and Sweden. All of those countries have healthcare systems far superior to the US healthcare system. We have the lowest life expectancy and the highest cost per capita for health care of any industrialized nation. Our system sucks.

Wrong, I lived in Spain for three years and you are wrong.

All we need to do is maintain the current pace with 55 billion tests a day and we will eventually lead the world with lowest death rate. It’s a math thing. I’m surprised weren’t not there already.

six of the top ten countries on the deaths per million list are European......Belgium's numbers are twice what ours are.......they have one of those far superior healthcare systems......

What are you talking about? Seriously. Testing has NOTHING to do with deaths per million population. Zero.

Spain...Patients do complain, however, about the long wait to see specialists and undergo certain procedures.

I'll add, just for your inqisitive nature:

I don't usually make election predictions. Too much can happen. But Trump is going to get trounced. It's gonna be a Mondale map in reverse, and the GOP may lose TX for at least a few election cycles.

Know how that might have been prevented? If Trump wore a mask from day 1, and preached the basics, every day: wear a mask, wash hands, distance, test & trace.

He could have shown leadership during this generations greatest crisis. Polls out today not only have him trailing badly behind Biden, but show that people just don't believe him anymore. He could have done the right thing, saved a ton of lives, kept the economy from tanking this badly and cruised to re-election.

But he's gonna lose now. And it won't be close.
Interesting info coming from his niece. His father was highly abusive, and any admission of fault for any reason was grounds for alienation.

trump cannot ever admit that he's human, and that he learns as he goes. (OK...he doesn't)

Instead, he consistently praises his own failures, blames others for same, and presents himself as a delusional liar.

Which is why he cannot come off of his original claim that the virus will magically disappear.

He was abused as a child. Nobody has ever loved him, (Maybe Ivanka, but that's a little weird) so he knows nothing of compassion or empathy.

Corona is on the rise in NYC in younger people. NYC does not have a 100% mask compliance anything. They just urge people to do it. Here: https://www.politico.com/states/new...-coronavirus-cases-among-young-adults-1300223
This could be due to a few reasons. NYC did a soft opening of bars, but only for take out service. Hundreds of kids were seen partying on the sidewalks outside of the bar, many with no masks. That wasn't the way the opening was designed to work, and was quickly shut down.

Without question, protests also had to account for other infections. Thus far, it's a small but steady increase. NY is very good at reinstating stricter measures when necessary.

It is an odd thing. Trump was handed the election when the virus appeared. Simple leadership would have swayed more than enough votes for him to win. Instead, he decided on this bizarre strategy of ignoring science and pushing for the opening of the economy. It's like he is incapable of nuanced thought. 'If the economy is good, I win, therefore I will do anything to keep the economy good'. It's how a ten year old thinks. I think the character flaws you mentioned prevent him from acting normally.

....Do masks work ‘just a bit’? I was under the impression that if we social distanced and masked, that the numbers would come down, we could open the economy up get things rocking again [well, maybe not too early, since the election isn’t till November].

Maybe someone can explain what’s going on in CA. I have my own ideas but they can wait.
Forget the masks. Stand your ground and don't wear one or deliberately wear it incorrectly just to piss off your employers.

You can also carry one of these and offer fellow workers some hydroxychloroquine which renowned medical expert Donald "the J is for Jenius" Trump confirms is the best solution for the COVID flu.

BTW, has anyone ever sent your employers your posts from this forum? Just curious if it's a problem.

Florida spring break also has had an impact on the spread. If we had decent testing and contact tracing we might know more, but that's just another failure of the Federal Government and this incompetent administration.

The whole "can't admit when he's wrong" thing is really hurting America, and costing a lot of lives and livelihoods.

We all have to be part of his national therapy to work through his issues. It's pretty surreal. And 100% on the compassion/empathy. Trump would let America burn if it would be better for his image somehow.

Who would do something like that? Can you Guess?...;)

Democrats:

'If the economy is bad, we win, therefore we will do anything to keep the economy bad...including burning down Democrat controlled cities.

You should have stopped at too much can happen lol.

And your analysis is too COVID-centric. Speaking of CA, since their numbers are spiking [in July] they are keeping kids out of school in the fall. Almost like they were looking for an excuse.

Democrats are making a very bad political miscalculation on school openings. It is going to piss off a lot of voters in a really big way. That isn’t ‘just a mild inconvenience’ to tens of millions of parents.
Incorrect about Democrats. People need to get free babysitting via school, but they care about their kids. They won't blame legislators who have said children's well being in mind.
They'll blame the moron in Washington who cannot come up with a coherent plan to deal with a pandemic.

NYC could care less what the governor says. Read the article.
Article said nothing like that. It did mention that masks should be used inside the home, or any time distancing cannot be adhered to. Previously, we were forced to use masks in public areas. Outside typically being safer than inside.

You always talk about Dems making "bad miscalculations," but every time you do, Biden's lead in the polls grows.

You base it on how YOU feel. In the poll today, 70% of Americans did not support Trump's blanket rush on schools. I happen to agree w/ you that it's better to have kids back in schools - but it can't be an isolated blanket decision. It has to be responsible, and based on actual science & circumstances. It may not be the best thing in some areas.

Regardless, MOST Americans support a more cautious approach. Your "miscalculation" comment is based on nothing.
Agree. Each region's education issues are different. Many regions have extremely crowded classrooms. Others don't. With students already used to online classes, it's not hard to implement a rotating schedule where 1/2 or 1/3 of the students attend classes in person every other day, while the rest attend online.

Yes. That sums it up. He believes that the facade of a good economy will get him re elected. If anything, he exposed the truth about the trump economy. The market is doing well, while the majority of people are still suffering.

He's been citing record economic gains, when in fact, it's record market gains with a mediocre economy.

And now he's been fully exposed. The market is still making gains, while the unemployment figures add millions of people each month. The two cannot possibly illustrate a good economy.

This, ironically looks like the Soviet Union back in the day. Empty store shelves, and millions of starving people. With leadership who shits into gold toilets, and consumes caviar.

From day one, when he promised to take health insurance away from millions of people (one of the only promises that he's kept) he claimed 'people won't blame me'.

That's not normal.

100% of the tests reported to the Florida Dept. of Health yesterday in some locations were positive, other locations reported high 80 and 90 percentiles(this is "statistically improbable").

Wow, that would be a total failure in Florida, if it were true. I am not going to just take your word that Republicans have failed that badly in Florida, but I will say it is possible.
