Michael Steele let's McConnell (Racist-KY) have it - Take that Turtle Bitch

ca...I appreciate and respect your opinion.

HOWEVER...considering what Trump is like and what he is doing...it is my strong opinion that EVERY former president should speak out against this abominable human being. In fact, every retired high official...or retired formerly appointed officials...should be speaking up loudly and clearly.

Trump is a disgusting blight on our Republic.

We're never going to agree on this.

So be it.

At the end of the day what's going to happen is going to happen. I think the tradition is bigger and more important than Trump but you and others are free to disagree.

For the sake of discussion, let's say Carter, Bush and Obama speak out. Trump is in his 70's and 3 1/2 years into his Presidency. Do you really expect him to change at this point? He doesn't give two sh*ts what any of them think. We saw a bunch of the Republican establishment speak out against him prior to the election and it did nothing. One thing Trump knows how to do is market himself and having ex-Presidents speak out against him would be used as red meat for his supporters.

We'll obviously see what happens.

Keep in mind, Obama's statements were addressed to a select audience, and not made in public, he wasn't doing what Mitch felt the need to comment upon

And your view of criticizing Trump is partially valid, but you are also asking others to stick by standards and traditions that Trump has pretty much flushed, he has set the bar pretty low now, and Michelle Obama's they "go low, we got higher" really didn't do well back in 2016, just ask the GOP primary candidates

BUZZ KILL!!!!

But you are correct, he will merely attack them........ Any critique~advice is seen by him as an attack on his brand, rather than the normal political bantering..

The whole idea of past President's not speaking out transcends partisanship and political parties. It's not like this unwritten rule applies to members of one party and not the other. I'm looking at the long game. Either you like that tradition or you don't. Because if you break it for Trump it's not going back. Is that what you want in 50 years? If you're ok with that then that's fine.

good point......Obama mentioned Bush at least once a day for eight years.......

Not even close to true, yes Obama upon occasion did bring in the prior Administration, but no where close to the times Trump has scapegoated not only Obama but even Bush to deflect off of Trump's own shortcomings. If you need proof, look at the relationship the prior Presidents have with each other, the way they relate at events, no way in hell Trump is ever going to be welcomed into that club

When OBL was killed, Obama invited both Clinton and Bush to appear with him at the podium to announce the news, now can you see Trump even coming close to doing the same?
