Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) told reporters that Mazars USA, a tax and accounting firm, has asked the committee for a so-called “friendly” subpoena so that it can formalize the process of complying with the panel’s request.
“They have told us that they will provide the information pretty much when they have a subpoena,” Cummings said. “And we’ll get them a subpoena.”

Upon written request from the chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means of the House of Representatives, the chairman of the Committee on Finance of the Senate, or the chairman of the Joint Committee on Taxation, the Secretary shall furnish such committee with any return or return information specified in such request, except that any return or return information which can be associated with, or otherwise identify, directly or indirectly, a particular taxpayer shall be furnished to such committee only when sitting in closed executive session unless such taxpayer otherwise consents in writing to such disclosure.

Can you cite the number of times Congress has exercised this power?

1) Never been challenged that I know of, it its like challenging the speed limit, no likely legal grounds for a challenge.
2) I'm sure its been used, just never against the president. But again, so what? The law is the law regardless of how rarely its used.
3) I want the Democrats to go down this path, because I want transparency in government.

Why are you only concerned about a President releasing their taxes and not ANY politician? You don't have concerns about ANY politician making money off of their time in office? What about their family members?
