As I recall, the lawyers for Smollett were looking for a plea deal after asking the DA to postpone the grand jury. Once a grand jury hands up an indictment, it would have made it much harder to work a plea dea.

there is no doubt that smollet faked a hate crime. Why are liberals celebrating him not being charged? This doesn't help you or your side. You just made it so future hate crimes wont be believed. This guy is not a good person, and I don't know why you want to put yourselves in the position of defending him.
My understanding is that it was $10,000 and that's due to a deal with his bondsman. The typical deal with a bondsman is that you put up 10%, then when the case is over you forfeit that 10% to the bondsman for payment.
Because he walked away from his bail. Bought his get out of jail (not quite free) card.
Wonder about federal charges associated with using the USPS for terror.

You can bet that exculpatory evidence has surfaced or a change in testimony from one of the witnesses surfaced, and the State had no choice but to drop charges.
I have always wondered if someone paid the brothers that claimed they were the perpetrators in the crime, to falsely claim that for the money. The complete opposite of what the police were claiming.
I can certainly see that as being something related to that being discovered, that would cause for the immediate dropping of charges.
Nothing surprises me anymore, because people are so willing today to push their politically hateful agendas, they are willing to risk all to do it.
Just look at the two idiots that were planning to bomb and shoot all of those Democrats. They were lone wolves, no doubt!
But in this case, who actually paid who to do what? Follow the money, and you'll usually find the truth!
Smollett had nothing to gain by falsely claiming he was attacked- in the first place.
That was obvious from the very beginning of this story! No one would put themselves through that!
I wouldn't do it- you wouldn't do it- and neither would anyone else! DUH!
I smell a lawsuit now to reclaim the fortune the man has spent on lawyer fees, and lost revenue as a result of his arrest.
And in time, watch for new arrests in this case of other perpetrators!

Simply untrue.
Even his lawyer who made a statement did not proclaim his innocence. It was simply "charges were dropped". Period.
It was a plea deal to get the charges dropped.
Forfeit a $10k bond and perform community service.
