The lawyer apparently instructed Comey NOT to answer some questions.

He did not "plead the Fifth."

Pleading the fifth is the act or an instance of asserting one's right against self incrimination under the Fifth Amendment. It is the refusal to testify under oath in a court of law on the ground that the testimony might be used as evidence against the witness to convict him/her of a criminal offense.

Comey was not under indictment, was not testifying under oath in a court of law, and was instead advised not to answer some questions by attorneys from the DoJ and the FBI who accompanied him.

He was appearing voluntarily (albeit reluctantly) before the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees in a non-public hearing.

A transcript insisted upon by Comey as a condition of his appearance should be released soon.
