That's part of what makes his failure so notable. You'd think that if anyone could beat the average return on investment long-term, it would be someone willing to cheat... someone willing to defraud people, default on debts, dodge taxes, and launder money for gangsters. Yet not only did Trump not beat the average return on investments, he fell far short of that level. It's like running a marathon, cheating by taking several shortcuts, and still finishing well behind the average runner.
