So what about people deciding for themselves whom to honor and whom not to honor in their own communities makes you uncomfortable? Should you and you alone decide for them who they should honor in their own communities?

Were patriot groups "snowflakes" for tearing down statues of British monarchs?

The notion that people can decide things for themselves must be highly distressful to you heh?

"So what about people deciding for themselves whom to honor and whom not to honor in their own communities makes you uncomfortable? Should you and you alone decide for them who they should honor in their own communities?"

>> would you be so supportive of the people rights in your community if they decided to honor Jefferson Davis and the CSA? Somehow I think not.

>> If I'm not mistaken the King of England was not an American colonist and elected representative of the people.

There are a myriad of reasons for the secession -you know this. The primary mover was slavery but it wasn't the sole factor.
I defend statues of soldiers in battle -and recall Congress allowed the CSA to be considered veterans for purposes of grave tendering.

I do not defend the antebellum south, or the reasons for secession.
My concern is historical rembrance for the brave and honorable on both sides, and battle markers themselves.

which is why I always promote a historical commission to make these decisions, not done in the heat of passion in the middle of the night

Tell that to the men who authored and ratified the secession documents. Those other reasons you speak of are a revisionist fiction, and nothing more.

We have a big statue that most people have no idea who it is. It is one of the few proper statues in my city (actually it is the only one that I know of here). A former long serving mayor I think but could just as easily be Lenin or Col. Sanders. They all kind of looked the same.

That is exactly my point. At one time someone thought that your ex-mayor was worthy of praise and had the statue erected. Years later you say that no one knows who he is but the fact that you have the statue made you wonder who he is and at least inquired enough to know that it was an ex-mayor. That is the purpose the statues. To honor those that we feel are worthy of remembering. If a member of community doesn't feel a person should be honored then they have the right to raise that question. If enough people in the community agree then the statue can and probably should be removed. It shouldn't be up to people outside the community that get their panties into wad because they don't feel the people inside the community have gotten it right.

i have said slavery is the main cause..do you deny soldiers volunteered to fight to defend their state as well?

and I notice you completely gloss over the fact that Congress itself has considered the CSA as veteran for historical markers and grave tendering.

You prefer your rants to actual discussion..have at it.

>> would you be so supportive of the people rights in your community if they decided to honor Jefferson Davis and the CSA? Somehow I think not.

I would voice my vehement opposition to such a thing. If the community decided to do then I would probably leave that community and settle elsewhere but I would not say they couldn't have it.

No he was only currently the Head of State at the time. What does that have to do with price of rice in China?

Utter nonsense. I am not saying that they should or should not tear down the statue. I am saying it is none of my business whether they keep it or tear it down. I don't live there. So again another total failure.

But not as US veterans, as your argument was recently debunked in a thread. Also, there was only one cause—not a main cause. Southerners enlisted to fight Americans.

Translation= you are not PC thus you are wrong and I am right.

Translation=You made me look really stupid so I will just play the PC card and whine some more.

Nice try snookie. The only one who looks like a fool and spoiled brat is you when you said you would move if your town did something you disagreed with.

I said I would consider moving dumb ass. Why would I want to live in a community that doesn't share my values. If they put a statue of Jeff Davis they are racist fucks. Why would I want my family exposed to that. The only one that looks stupid are people like you who decry freedom except when you disagree with it.

simplistic as usual. Your Johnny 1 note go to.

Causes of the American Civil War
Citation: C N Trueman "Causes of the American Civil War"

A common assumption to explain the cause of the American Civil War was that the North was no longer willing to tolerate slavery as being part of the fabric of US society and that the political power brokers in Washington were planning to abolish slavery throughout the Union. Therefore for many people slavery is the key issue to explain the causes of the American Civil War. However, it is not as simple as this and slavery, while a major issue, was not the only issue that pushed American into the ‘Great American Tragedy’. By April 1861, slavery had become inextricably entwined with state rights, the power of the federal government over the states, the South’s ‘way of life’ etc. – all of which made a major contribution to the causes of the American Civil War.

Thanks for confirming that you are so narcissistic that you expect your community to share your values (your words not mine). This is America and is a country of laws not mob rule as you appear to prefer. Thanks for again showing how effed up liberalism is.
