My primary deer hunting rifle is a Ruger Model M77 bolt action. Sometimes I used a Remington Model 700 .308

More powerful and more accurate with the scopes mounted on them.

Far less powerful than the .22-250 or the even more powerful .220 Swift. Those shoot a .223 dia projectile. The .223 Remmington (or .223) uses a .224 dia projectile. Bullet weights are virtually identical.

Yep, the .223 Rem has a relatively small casing. You can only get so many grains of powder in a small casing.
