China is favored over Russia throughout most of the world .. except Trumpy World.

it's nothing to do with "likes" -it's about understanding a strategic threat.

Trump the campaigner got this instinctively. He still does in that he wants better relations with Russia.

But China is needed to check Korea. At the same time Chinese protectionism impedes balances of trade.
So you have to walk that line. But even with China's cooperation on NK -Russia has to pledge not to be a safety valve.

It's a complex situation,and one reason why Obama never did his promised "Asian pivot"
( Obama's foreign policy just sort of stagnated)

I guarantee Tillerson and the generals get all this- and Trump has mentioned all this in his speeches

China is just beginning to flex it's hard power.
I guarantee you the Asian subcontinent does not favor China (India and the "stan" states).

Russia's economy is too small/specialized to use soft power - but just like the USSR it knows this
and is amendable to negotiations on reducing military scope with NATO.
The asshole Russiaphobes in this country prevent that
