Abortion thought experiment

I think what this exposes more than anything is the flaw in the absolutist arguments on the pro life side.

I have always seen Roe as a very elegant & thoughtful compromise between the 2 sides. Allowing abortion in the 1st trimester acknowledges that at some point, the fetus reaches a point where the questions surrounding its rights become more murky. It takes into account things like viability, sentience, consciousness, etc.

But hardcore pro-lifers just don't see it that way, and I always suspect because it's pretty nuanced and complicated to think about it that way. It's much easier to say life begins at conception, and that ends the debate. It absolves them of further contemplation and challenging their thought patterns.

Abortion is a complex issue. The question of the OP at minimum reveals that yes - there is at least some difference between a zygote and a child. And it's why it's an uncomfortable question for some.

and it keeps women from being prosicuted for losing a fetus

Imagine a world where your fetus spontaniously aborts or dies.

happens all the time

then the women is prosicuted for causing it

Frozen, sometimes permanently, would you do that to a living child? You must be horribly upset about fertilization clinics being allowed to do this. Better start a movement against fertilization clinics, shut them down for torturing embryos in this fashion! Embroyos are also destroyed in some case. Why aren’t the faithful up in arms over this?

Of course I'm against this Frankenstein procedure.
All I did was answer the OP question directly. He didn't ask if any of us were in favor of the frozen life procedure.

and those babies that are born though these procedures are what to you?

monsters who shouldnt exsist because god didnt plan them?

Unbelievers are always concerned with flesh. Believers are concerned with souls.

And how do you know what the soul's position on abortion is, or what happens to the "soul" of an aborted fetus?

There has been a fair amount of past life regression and NDE therapy that talks about that. Personally, I think it's unlikely that an abortion in the 1st trimester has any bearing on any soul out there.

"Here it is. You're in a fertility clinic. Why isn't important. The fire alarm goes off. You run for the exit. As you run down this hallway, you hear a child screaming from behind a door. You throw open the door and find a five-year-old child crying for help. .
They're [sic]in one corner of the room. In the other corner, you spot a frozen container labeled "1000 Viable Human Embryos." The smoke is rising. You start to choke. You know you can grab one or the other, but not both before you succumb to smoke inhalation and die, saving no one. 4/

Do you A) save the child, or B) save the thousand embryos? There is no "C." "C" means you all die.

In a decade of arguing with anti-abortion people about the definition of human life, I have never gotten a single straight A or B answer to this question. And I never will. " Patrick Tomlinson

Thats like asking a person "do you still beat your wife".....1) YES.....2) NO.....are the only answers accepted....

and you're stupid enough to fall for it....

I keep seeing the "do you still beat your wife" thing brought up.

Let's be clear: the question of the OP is nothing like that question, at all. It's extremely telling that some on the right think it is. It is not that kind of "gotcha" question - it's a simple scenario of choice.

Thats like asking a person "do you still beat your wife".....1) YES.....2) NO.....are the only answers accepted....

if what you claim you believe is true

that a child and a fertilized egg are of equal value

then your answer should be you would let the child burn and save the bottle of fertilaized eggs.

your hesitation to answer that way proves you dont value them the same

its kills your arguement dead.

GET IT

you hesitated

there is no way to redo your answer

Where did I claim that a child and a fertilized egg are of equal value ?
Where did I claim that I should would let the child burn and save the bottle of fertilaized eggs.?
Where did you get the idea I hesitated in any way....

What I did say is "Thats like asking a person "do you still beat your wife".....1) YES.....2) NO.....are the only answers accepted....

and you're stupid enough to fall for it...."

and you are.

It's nothing like that question. You're not being accused.

It's a simple choice in the OP...which one would you save in that scenario? Pretty straightforward.

Interesting, I’ll give you props, then you are one of very few who are consistent, since many Christian couples seek help with their fertility issues in this fashion.

You really are that blind as to what I just said??? :palm:
It's tiring constantly repeating my own words because you don't understand them on the first go-round.
