Let's go with that "well-regulated" part of the 2nd Amendment.

You have guns? Fine. Want ammo for them? Then you get to attend a certified gun safety and handling class at your own expense. You must provide evidence that you have purchased either gun safes, trigger locks, or other means to keep them safe while not in use. You will provide evidence that you carry enough liability insurance in the event that one escapes your control and causes injury/death. You will undergo a background check that includes criminal record as well as mental health. You'll receive a license or addendum to your driver's license showing that you are up to date on the requirements. You must show this to purchase ammo, supplies for reloading, and/or new firearms. Every other year you will be required to attend a short refresher course on gun safety and demonstrate that 1) you can actually hit a target, and 2) you can properly and safely handle your firearm.

So despite all the photo ops of The Donald signing one proclamation after another, this one he saw to it was signed in silence and*buried*in other news.



While the press corps was distracted and the cable channels aired footage of Trump surrounded by a bipartisan group of smiling women, behind closed doors and with no fanfare the president quietly signed a measure that killed a regulation enacted by the Obama administration to tighten gun background checks.
The rule required the Social Security Administration to send over the names of people who receive government checks for being mentally disabled and others who have been deemed unable to handle their own financial affairs to the FBI office that runs the national background check database. This is a universe of about 75,000 people.
The National Rifle Association says that curtails the Second Amendment rights of these people and convinced GOP leadership to use the Congressional Review Act to undo it. Under the Constitution, Trump had 10 days to sign off. By waiting until the day before the deadline to do so, when there were so many big stories in the mix, he ensured it got minimal coverage.
In a normal time, with a conventional president, undoing this regulation would have been front-page news. Trump’s move would have sparked a national conversation about the country’s continuing failure to seriously address both gun violence and mental illness. Major publications would have run deeper stories about how flawed the national background check system is five years after the massacre at Sandy Hook, with an emphasis on the gun lobby’s role in keeping it that way.

I wonder how much of that is actually Constitutional as 2nd amendment is an individual right?

even if you get some/lots of that passed -would it stop the Vegas shooting? this one?

Don't get me wrong - I loathe all things gunz - the damage they do far outweighs protection
and the carnage is on innocents. I just don't really think anything would help all that much
in these cases where the perp is determined..

Plus we have a gun culture..everybody seems to want them *yuck* -
and a case ca be made for self defense not having to go thru onerous restrictions..

I see no real answers. it's too entwined in our contemporary culture

Yes, restricting the sale of ammo to only those who passed the above requirements possibly might have prevented the LV massacre, as well as others.

Many years ago Missouri finally passed a concealed-carry law. To qualify you had to take an eight hour gun safety and handling course, which also included a marksmanship section. You had to be able to hit a human-sized target from seven yards. My late husband was one of the first people in our county to take the course and receive his CCW permit. He said there was a guy in his class who was apparently legally blind. He struggled with reading the printed course paperwork, and needed help aiming his pistol at the target. But he passed.

Can you just imagine this guy in a mass-shooting event? He'd probably wing more civilians than the perp(s).

PS--Missouri repealed the CCW law and now *everyone* can carry guns *anywhere*. Yay for freedumb!

So far as we've seen with the abortion controversy, restricting access to abortion facilities by the various states has not generally been considered unconstitutional. The thinking seems to be that as long as there is some access, it's still within the state's right to restrict. Same with my proposed gun regulations. Own all the guns you like, keep the ones you already have -- but to buy them food we have a few little hoops to jump through first.
 
I highly encourage the democrat party to run a national campaign on gun control in 2018. Should be fun. Do it. Now is your chance to be swept to victory
