Should nationalism be actively taught against as an evil political ideology?

Although there are pockets of Nazis among Trump supporters, there is no intellectual connection to the absolute truth that Nazism comes from ethnic nationalism (often posing as 'economic nationalism'), which most agree is effectively evil (or as close to evil as you can possibly get without invoking Beelzebub). How would you propose that America and other civilized nations stomp out nationalism as an ideology (i.e. actively and rightly demonize the ideology represented by Trump and Bannon)?

When the leaders of the 'patriotic' movement try to wedge disagreements involving race and ethnicity. Like when 'protecting your borders' becomes 'Mexicans are sending rapists to rape you'. Which means this movement should have been called out as evil the day Trump launched his campaign. And it was. Sad day for America that so many chose to ignore these warning signs out of pure selfishness. The Republican party should have shut him down and cut ties. The same as they would with David Duke.

I agree that long term the GOP has made a mistake by tacitly excepting the far right White Nationalist in their midst but that didn’t answer my question.

I would posit that nationism is patriotism that includes elements of chauvinism and ethnocentrism and at its extreme racism and bigotry.
