so as I observed, it seems the vast majority of the booing stopped when they stood up. Which means the crowd could very easily have assumed they intended to kneel for the national anthem.

no it's not a false narrative. The cowboys specifically tried to find a compromise and a way to not offend the flag by kneeling. that's why they did it before the national anthem. They literally thought, discussed, and planned on how to protest while not disrespecting the flag by kneeling. Essentially, the cowboys do not agree with others kneeling during the anthem, given they took such actions to avoid doing that.

like it or not, people are going to interpret kneeling during the national anthem as disrespectful. If it is your intention to convey a certain message, there are better ways of accomplishing that. The cowboys found the perfect solution, they still sent their message, but respected the flag. This solution is not that hard to conceive of.

Of course, as I pointed out earlier, this recent kneeling gesture is because of trumps comments, and trumps comments were about kneeling during the anthem, and the cowboys acknowledge what trump was saying and decided to not do that. So their 'protest' is kinda moot.
