A senior Russian lawmaker on Wednesday joined President Trump in dismissing reports of an undisclosed conversation between the U.S. leader and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin at a summit of world leaders as “sick.”

White House spokesman Sean Spicer confirmed that Trump "spoke briefly" with Putin at a dinner at the G-20 summit in Hamburg, Germany, earlier this month, but insisted it was just a normal part of presidential duties and denied news reports surfacing Tuesday that it was a second private meeting between the two.

"There was no 'second meeting' between President Trump and President Putin, just a brief conversation at the end of a dinner," the White House said in a statement.

"The insinuation that the White House has tried to 'hide' a second meeting is false, malicious and absurd," the statement said.

Alexei Pushkov, chairman of the information policy at the upper house of Russian parliament, said the reports in multiple U.S. news outlets were of “a secret conversation that didn’t happen.”

“They’re sick,” he said, reiterating an earlier remark by Trump.
