The legal threshold is whether or not the gerrymandering was cynically and illegally intended to disenfranchise voters of the basis of race, religion, creed, or any other legally protected status.

Republicans have been losing in courts across the nation because it is being proven in a court of law they intentionally and deceptively been gerrymandering to disenfranchise groups of voters (mostly brown skinned) who do not tend to vote Republican.

In other words, Desh's claims are being proven in courts of law across the nation.

As for the claim you just made, can you point to a body of case law that backs up your assertion? Are Democrats being sued successfully in courts in Maryland over this?

Cypress, gerrymandering is gerrymandering. So yeah, if you claim it is cheating when your "opponents" do it are you willing to acknowledge the same when your own "side" does it? Not a look over there question at all.

And take a look at the VRA and how it gerrymanders. Even the liberal magazine The Atlantic has written how it may be well intentioned but has negative effects on the black community vis a vis political options and the Democratic Party.
