Is Comey in legal peril?

The article doesn't really answer the question. You wrote that meetings with the POTUS are covered as classified. All meetings? is what I'm wondering. Because, for example, if the winning NFL team meets the prez and then the players talk about it to the press, that's not classified. Take a look at what another lawyer said.

"The only way there could ever be a criminal case against Comey for leaking his memos, Vladeck told me, is if they contain classified national security information (in that case, a leak could be a violation of the Espionage Act) or information “that has pecuniary value to the United States” (which could be a violation of the federal conversion-of-property statute). Would it be possible to make the argument that the memo Comey leaked did contain that kind of information? “If all he did was memorialize the contents of a conversation with the president the contents of which were not themselves classified, no,” Vladeck says."

Strawman.

It's not a question of whether it was classified. Comey leaked his memos to the media with the intent of affecting a political outcome. That absolutely isn't his job. Wasn't Comey the one going on about the FBI being kept apart from politics? Well, how about you quit sticking your nose in it!

He really does have some kind of drama queen thing going.

Comey leaked his memos for the same reason he released his testimony in advance of the hearing...
He knew a desperate and guilty, insane president may have tried to block him from appearing in public hearings.
With the the cat out of the bag, there was nothing left to block...
Smart cookie...It worked...

Executive privilege. Vs FBI director, who has no privilege.

That does not make it illegal to leak it, it is a privilege against testifying, you dont understand that privilege does not mean classified. Learn the difference.

Trump is trying to take advantage of your ignorance.

As soon as Trump discussed the meetings with Comey in public, all privileged conversation became fair game for Comey to comment on.
Trumptards are grasping at straws.

No and no, he never perjured himself nor did he "leak" documents, and as many times as your media echoes the falsehoods and you regurgitate them thier still wrong

you can't have it both ways......he testified under oath that he leaked documents.....so if he didn't, its perjury.....

He did not have a job when he leaked the memo.

Fun to watch Trumptards trying to discredit Comey now that they realize how much damage he has done to their President...
Just yesterday they were claiming victory and that Comey exonerated their orange clown....

So much fun to see them squirm and dance...

LMFAO

Oh, so everyone who authors books after they leave office is now legally threatened cause they are "releasing" Gov't information

Get real, as usual, your just another conservative regurgitating talk radio/Fox talking points

Bogus analogy. But, thanks for playing. I accept your concession

You appear to be trying to equate apples with oranges, unless you can show one person who "authored a book" that revealed Gov't information; and did so without having permission or didn't face consequences for revealing the information.

After reading the comments made, it's become apparent that most of Comey's defenders didn't watch the hearing and are instead getting their information from the MSM reporting of their interpretation of the hearing.

I've also noticed that it hasn't been mentioned that while Comey said he didn't feel pressured by Trump to stop any investigation, he did feel pressured by Lynch to end the Hillary investigation and that was AFTER the tarmac "meeting".

It's really not a matter of classified vs unclassified.............

Besides being subject to Nondisclosure Agreements, Comey falls under federal laws governing the disclosure of classified and nonclassified information. Assuming that the memos were not classified (though it seems odd that it would not be classified even on the confidential level), there is 18 U.S.C. § 641 which makes it a crime to steal, sell, or convey “any record, voucher, money, or thing of value of the United States or of any department or agency thereof.”

There are also ethical and departmental rules against the use of material to damage a former represented person or individual or firm related to prior representation. The FBI website states:

Dissemination of FBI information is made strictly in accordance with provisions of the Privacy Act; Title 5, United States Code, Section 552a; FBI policy and procedures regarding discretionary release of information in accordance with the Privacy Act; and other applicable federal orders and directives.”
