My only beef with wind is that the turbines are ugly as all heck. I wouldn't want to live in a rural era near all the wind farms. Plus the damn things kill migrating birds at an alarming rate. That being said, I would not mind at all if they sited these things at major ski areas like Vail, who claims to be 100% wind or some bullshit like that. All they are doing is buying into the grid-based scam that Zippy thinks is wonderful. If Vail wants to claim the green mantle then put the damn things right where the energy is used.

With respect to PV, the problem I have is the so called "solar farms" that are cropping up all around here in NC. Perfectly good land that was used to grow FOOD, providing real energy by the way, is now unable to be farmed, basically forever, because of solar panels. While at the same time we have thousands of acres of rooftop and highways where the panels could be installed without negative impact, making electricity closer to where it is actually used.

Turns out unsurprisingly, wind energy fared far better than all conventional sources of energy, and better than nearly all other renewable sources of energy. Including all lifecycle emissions factors, wind energy’s emissions are a few percent of the emissions of fossil-fueled energy sources.

There's nothing more convincing than a crook who ran a bank into the ground and lines his pockets from a coal mine in northern England and was censured by Parliment for not disclosing his interests in a company making fracking equipment.

Those stats are highly misleading, they always quote the nameplate capacity, the actual capacity depends on the load factor which typically less that a third of that. Oh and the total amount of electricity generated by wind in the US is around 6% but if you look at total energy use it is around 1%!! Also bear in mind that dispatchable power like gas or hydro needs to be available 24/7 to provide a consistent baseload.

He actually says in the article that he has an interest in a coal mine. He points out that because concrete and steel mainly use coal then he actually has a vested interest in wind turbines. I took that part out because I wanted to see if anybody actually read the article. Anyhow I can't see how someone who claims coal to be a renewable ought to be sounding off about it.

It could easily be implied given this is a CO2 thread. I've seen the State Media show those types of pics when trying to sell global warming to the stupid uninformed liberal voters.

That is a bullshit website dedicated to wind advocacy. Here is an up to date article, subsidies will be cut back drastically and wind will have to compete on a level playing field.

Texas has a mixed bag of fuels to generate the state’s electricity. This includes natural gas (55 perent), coal/lignite (24 percent), wind (14 percent), nuclear (6 percent), and solar (1 percent).

But this mix will keep changing since Houston and some other Texas cities are “nonattainment” areas regarding air quality. So, carbon emissions will still need to be reduced whether you are concerned about “climate change” or not. Not good news for coal, particularly.

Another key factor: The Trump administration is likely to cut back on taxpayer subsidies for wind and solar.
