I guess because they allowed it? I've heard universities can offer a bit of persuasion to the student groups on their campus over issues of their behavior. I know, sounds crazy, right?

Well whatever blacks at Harvard want to do is fine with me. Personally I hated both my graduation ceremonies after high school (that would make three) and didn't even want to go . For me it was just a show for the parents. The ceremony is nothing more than a formality anyway, at least I would hope. Once the course work is done you should be good to go getting that diploma even if you want it mailed. Plus I'm sure that any black that wanted to go to the graduation ceremony that everybody else goes to would be welcome.
But this story just reinforces my negative image of Harvard in particular. I wouldn't have gone there for free.
Anecdote: A friend of mine was accepted there on a full academic scholarship and rejected from Dartmouth where he really wanted to go. He ended up going to Univ. of Washington.

That's not true. I was in one for 8 weeks as a pledge and then got black balled on the 9th week for punching the President of the Fraternity in the nose. Got my ass kicked for doing that but the conceited prick deserved it and I become a legend on Campus for breaking the pricks nose. :)
