(CNN)Dozens of aircraft hangars and high-end radar capabilities on China's man-made islands in the South China Sea are almost operational, according to new satellite imagery released by a US-based think tank.

The new facilities will further establish China's military dominance over the highly contested region, experts told CNN, and could help China establish a controversial Air Defense Identification Zone in the area.
Images released by the Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative, AMTI, taken in early March, show nearly completed defense infrastructure on three of China's largest artificial islands in the disputed Spratly chain: Fiery Cross, Mischief and Subi reefs.

Each of the islands has new aircraft hangers, capable of holding 24 military aircraft, as well as several larger hangars that can hold bombers or surveillance planes.
Though completion of these facilities in early 2017 was expected, the question remains: Where does China go from here?
"I mean, you don't build facilities like that and then not use them," Ian Storey, a senior fellow at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies Yusof Ishak Institute, told CNN.

nothing new here...

Hey Bill! Do you think the "Russian card" would be a good play here by Trump?

That would of course depend on how he tried to play it..

You doubt China has not already considered this when the so called got in bed w/ the Russians?? Hell, they have prob been secretly watching all along.

Eurasian integration: Caught between Russia and China
http://www.ecfr.eu/article/essay_eurasian
n recent years Russia and China have both embarked on ambitious projects to integrate the Eurasian landmass. Russia has established the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) in hopes of creating a Russian-dominated geopolitical bloc. In a very different approach, China has promoted the “One Belt, One Road” (OBOR, or New Silk Road) initiative that aims to use Chinese financial power to physically and economically integrate Eurasia, with China at its core. The two initiatives differ greatly and even clash in many respects, but they share one important trait: both prompt European policymakers to think more strategically about issues and territories outside their usual scope.

Yes, & china has the $$$ so what are you &/or the rookie thinking?? Russian card aint worth much, unless they start w/ some muscle..

I thought china & russia agreed on UK, Crimea & those islands over a thousand miles from china..??

China did not support or oppose the Crimean referendum -they consider that "foreign interference"

Russian Pacific Fleet ships have gone to the South China Sea for joint exercises with Chinese naval forces. The Russian Foreign Ministry insists that Moscow does not take sides in the maritime territorial disputes between China and Southeast Asian countries, but experts say the situation is not so straightforward.

So what would you hope for then?

there are many reasons to look for a cooling off with Russia. The money and manpower and more and more advanced weapons are the prime reason ( Cold War 2.0).
Any cooling off with Russia might possibly open up some room for creating daylight between the 2.
Things are SO BAD right now any improvement is worth a chance..

suck that putin cock

Yes, we have done that & now we have air craft hangers.:dunno: Don't seem like they have been deterred in the least..

well you aren't going to deter China ( why I think they are the real boogeyman -not Russia) if they ignore UN tribunal and such.
And don't forget Tibet. They are the world's hegemonists.

What you can do is push back and hope the SE Asian littoral states stand up against them too.

russobots cant stand the Idea of china and the world coming together

they know it will be their demise

China isn't playing around...

They are just going to take that entire area-because they can...

which is precisely why Trump is courting russia.

Kissinger tried to play the china card against russia. The reverse is being done now as china is a bigger threat than russia. But of course democrats like bill would rather declare war on russia.

I would prefer no war, no hacking, no foreign devils interfering in our elections.. Something all Americans use to care about..

Do you have anything @ all to support your speculations??
