Koppel tells Hannity "You're bad for America."

To speak to the question of responsibility, it is obviously a complex question. Personally, the fairness doctrine should be brought back in some form. We could also learn from other countries about freedom of the press. I believe the United States is ranked relatively low in press freedom.

the law of unintended consequences. Eliminating the fairness doctrine had the opposite of its intended affect but considering how media technologies have changed I don't know if bringing it back would make a difference.

The "fairness doctrine" was a fascist attempt to shut down dissent. Anyone interested in a free society and with slightly less than half a brain would find such a Fascist tool repugnant and anathema to liberty.

Fuck the fairness doctrine, and any fucktard who would even so much as praise it.

Yeah, good luck trying to monitor that in today's internet driven environment

Say what?????

You may want to choose a better term than "fair and balanced" Faux news has made a mockery of it.

Wrong again; the FAKE media has made a mockery of it. Which is why Fox kicks their asses on a daily basis as far as "balanced" and "fair" news are concerned.

But again, we have no examples of it other than your whiney bloviating. No surprise there.

My question is do we have a personal responsibility to differentiate between fact and propaganda or do we have a public responsibility to do so?

We have a personal responsibility to be informed and intelligent; something liberals lack in the extreme.

The media has a responsibility to be fair and balanced which they have now shown no propensity to do.

If you think there is no bias in the mainstream media or that it is not agenda based, you dumber than a rock.

Rachel Maddow is a partisan.

Sean Hannity is a propagandist.

There is a world of difference.

you moron. I thanked his post because I agree with his statement that there has been a decline in freedom of the press in our nation.

Then you are the moron; to suggest that the press in this nation isn't FREE is the epitome of mental retardation.

But again, you are FREE to show some examples of how it is not free rather than your typical whiney bloviating.

Dunce.

Same here. I have a problem with Maddow's long winded intros, and her flair for the dramatic, but she's in no way the least bit similar to Hannity.

Their markets are vastly different. I'd say the median IQ for Hannity listeners is about 80. Maddow targets an audience with quite a bit more grey matter.

Another massive pile of leftist bile that only the ignorant and stupid can utter. I am amused that morons like you believe that you have an ounce of intelligence in your tiny low information brains.

Dunce.

Interestingly, wasn't Brexit driven by the overt promise of saving billions in healthcare costs? Something that was an admitted lie after the Yes vote prevailed?

trump won largely due to his lies about improving healthcare.
No that's bullshit. The majority of people have had enough of the EU and its dictatorial ways. Anyway, it cannot continue on its present course anyway and the Euro is in deep trouble.
the fact you don't see the liberal bias in every other news source highlights your own bias.......

Hannity is Pravda .MSNBC, CNN are fake (spun heavily) news. WaPo and NYTimes are fake news.

....Strawberry Fields /nothing is real...

Well, I don't think the internet would be construed as the public airwaves, which is why you could always have ideologically-based periodicals and journals (such as National Review, Modern Age and New Republic), but not radio and television programming (without making it too cumbersome for most outlets to bother trying). Technically, Fox probably could have gotten away with a show such as Hannity & Colmes under the Fairness Doctrine, because there was both a conservative and leftist voice operating for the same amount of time (even though Hannity is a douche and hogged the limelight).
