President Trump’s administration has told the State Department to cut more than 50 percent of U.S. funding to United Nations programs, Foreign Policy reported.

The push for the drastic reductions comes as the White House is scheduled to release its 2018 topline budget proposal Thursday, which is expected to include a 37 percent cut to the State Department and U.S. Agency for International Development budgets.

It's not clear if Trump's budget plan, from the Office of Management and Budget, would reflect the full extent of Trump's proposed cuts to the U.N.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has suggested phasing in the major reductions over the coming three years.

I believe this should just be the first step.

It should eventually be followed by cutting our funding completely, withdrawing from the corrupt U.N. and asking them to move their HQ to some other nation.

At the very least, this will act as a wake up call to those in the U.N. who think they're going to institute a Global Government, that Patriot Nationalism is alive and strong, at least here in America!

The John Kerry and Co. Elites Democratic Party may want open borders and be willing to cede our national soveriegnty to some socialist world government, but more than half of the country's voters are NOT interested!

if we look at things objectively there are a lot of countries that have peacekeepers that dont want them there like Sudan for example and the comittment periods are winding down as well. There should be no reason to keep them there. If they dont want peacekeepers no reason to send aid too.

Lots of places we can cut :)

There is nothing that makes a starving ethiopian more worthy of help than a starving american :)

there are plenty of needy people in the US too. They live on the streets and liberals force them to pee on themselves in SF. At least the ethiopians have the aid to count on. Some of those people have nothing :)

You're an idiot.

Poor and homeless people in this country have access to food and shelter if they want it.

Many of them carry cell phones and have internet access.

The hard core homeless who don't take advantage of the shelters stay away because they don't like the curfews and no drugs policies.
 
What really seems to be weirding people out here is the shock realization that USAID — the nice, humanitarian, democracy-promoting arm of American idealism — also engages in sleazy regime-change and subversion. The sorts of nefarious covert activities folks normally associate with the CIA.
