Russia launches a missile, patrols our Eastern coast and buzzes our ships and Trump is silent.

Remember what Trump said he would do if he were disrespected?

Yeah - I thought about that yesterday. He had some lame explanation, that basically wasn't any different from Obama's situation.

But remember, we weren't supposed to take him literally (a.k.a. believe a word he said).

That's another conundrum, we aren't to take him literally on some things, but on others they tell us, well, he did say he would do this during the campaign.

I need a reference guide to what is literal and what isn't.
 
Looks like they think he is weak and are testing him... same with North Korea.
 
He addressed that. Would you prefer a military confrontation? The spy ship is almost laughable-
and it's operating in international waters..what would you do? it's all above board and internationally legal.

The missile (cruise) is a violation of development, but do you want to do what about it?
It's only a technical violation as it is.

Iran has been testing BALLISTIC MISSILES with soon to be ICBM capability which is of no use
other then nuclear tips. Obama didn't do a damn thing about it -Trump is putting on sanctions.
Is that tough enough?

And what you are completely missing in context is that this is a new administration-that doesn't want to reflexively
"throw rocks at Russia" like Graham and the new confrontational Democrats
( who were supine under Obama towards Russia expansion into the middle east beyond Syria)-
including toning down the rhetoric.

That in itself leads to less confrontation, less Cold War posture and less spending in Europe
which is already bloated with redundant weapons systems

The reason for the thread is Trump's campaign rhetoric, which was MUCH more confrontational, and ridiculing of Obama for not taking action.

How do you even miss something like that? Incredible.

he ridiculed Obama's dithering on the red line in Syria.
That really hurt any chances of a better outcome for Syria - it was clear despite our supplying weapons
we were not going to go up against Assad or support any non-sectarian rebels other then pro forma

Not that we should have -but it enbolded Assad to use more horror weapons like barrel bombs..
and it gave Iran a green light to use Qods forces in Syria

He excoriated Obama/Hillary on Libya - as did Bernie.
They were in agreement here and he campaigned against interventionism in the middle east.

President Trump once again unleashed a fearsome barrage of tweets on Wednesday morning. The target was the New York Times’s new report that intelligence officials have established contacts between Russian intelligence and Trump campaign officials during the campaign.

Trump attacked the news media again, railing that “the fake news media is going crazy with their conspiracy theories and blind hatred.” He also blasted the intelligence services, claiming that they are “illegally” giving information to the media, which, he opined, is “just like Russia.”

This has become a pattern, in which Trump deals with setbacks by lashing out at other institutions, including ones that can function as a check on his power. When the courts blocked his immigration ban, he blasted both the courts and the news media for making us less safe, in what seemed to be designed to lay the groundwork to blame them for a future terrorist attack, a move that even some Republicans criticized for its authoritarian tendencies. This appeared to be a test run of sorts, in which Trump was experimenting with how far he could go in delegitimizing the institutions that might act as a check on his power later.

But as a test run, for now, at least, it is failing. Trump’s unchecked antics on multiple fronts are suddenly making him look like a very weak autocrat wannabe.
