The jihadists want to rid the Middle East of the filthy infidels. And they have a religious justification for it: basically, since the Middle East was won for Allah at one point, then any later incursion by the infidels is a cause for war.
So, if we leave they can boast that they won the land back for Allah. There's no better recruiting tool than winning, as you know.
It's not going to happen, but if it did that would hardly be the end of the jihad. Presently, they have designs on Europe---just like they did in prior centuries.

There actually is no better recruitment tool than alienation. We're playing right into the oppressive, us v. them image that extremists try to portray. I heard a group of Middle Easterners talking over the weekend about how important it is to have their countrymen come to America and come back w/ tales of what a great people we are. We also rely heavily on our Muslim allies there and Muslim communities for intel and cooperation when it comes to fighting extremists.
It's ridiculous to hear Trump tweet all weekend about how the judge's order is letting all of this "death & destruction" into America now - when we somehow survived our whole history without it. The ban is a knee-jerk reaction to the threat, and not well thought-out. It's kind of the stuff they hope we do.

The travel ban is supposed to be temporary -while we re-calibrate how to vet from those specific countries that do not have a working central gov't we can partner with to set up effective metrics..
