Affordable Care Act

Obamacare as it was passed is probably the worst, most poorly considered law in U.S. history second only to Prohibition.

What we need to do is remove the obstructive, unconstitutional aspects of Obamacare, keep the better ideas and move towards a well considered, bipartisan plan.

Obamacare has failed miserable - unless you are a state / federal / major union employee who is EXEMPT from the law, or one of the scumbags who have their medical care subsidized.

The people in the middle - the people who work and are taking up the slack for the entitled class who are exempt from Obamacare, and paying far more than they should to cover the scumbags, illegals and stinking refugees are just plain fucked.

I pay close to $1300 a month, I have a large family.

An illegal immigrant or refugee with a bigger family pays Zip, nada, NOTHING.

Now you know why I quit voting democratic party line in 2012 and went for Trump in 2016 even though I don't care all that much for him.

Agreed. This is an unpopular opinion, but imo, health care is a responsibility not a right, no different than living a healthy lifestyle.
And guess what folks have the highest no show rate in health care provider practices. Medicaid patients.

It's 50/50 at most.

Of course people have a responsibility to do their part by not smoking, drinking and abusing drugs and trying to eat a reasonably healthy diet, cutting back sugar and sodium filled junk food to a minimum, etc. But that is no guarantee of maintaining good health.

Some of the healthiest lifestyle adherents in the world end up in cancer and cardiac wards.

If medical science has the ability to cure the sick, a lack of money to pay for that cure should not be a consideration. Denying poor people health care for lack of ability to pay is beneath immoral. It's criminal.

It was all based in a model that was created by a conservative policy group and was advocated by Newt Gingrich and the Republicans in the 90's.

It only became a "horrible idea" after a Democrat President co-opted it.

Republicans don't care about liberals. They care about their constituents.

They can't repeal it without a replacement at this point.

this is why you can never give a liberal an inch. One you guys get another taker program in place you can never undo it. It's like side scrolling in a 2d platform game. You can never go back.

Get rid of pre-existing conditions and allowing children to stay on your plan. They are what is bankrupting the system. The free market will provide.

what's bankrupting the system is patriots like me who have refused to sign up for obamacare. I am a healthy 30s year old. I am letting it eat itself from the inside. Makes me so happy to know I had a small part in helping to kill obamacare

The ACA was going broke -or the insurance companies couldn't afford it-however you want to say it.
Keeping it as it was wasn't an option.
Americans want affordable coverage.they want some portability, and they want the kids to stay on into their 20's

Just exactly how you do that is what the Repubs need to figure out.

The insurance companies are reaping massive profits.

This is the absolute truth

All of it. Every word. Every syllable. Every period and comma

That might happen, then They will reenact 90% of it and say they fixed it. It will never be truly repealed. Portions of it might, but 90% is here to stay.

Aetna (AET) is pulling out of 11 of the 15 states where it offers Obamacare policies after losing $430 million, the company announced Monday. Its move follows downsizings by UnitedHealthcare (UNH), which will operate in only three states in 2017, and Humana (HUM), which is withdrawing from nearly 1,200 counties in eight states.

There's no doubt Obamacare is suffering a major shakeup three years after the exchanges opened. Those who've signed up for coverage are sicker and costlier than expected, while too many healthier Americans are opting to pay a penalty rather than a premium. That's prompting many insurers to raise their rates by double-digit percentages for 2017 or minimize their presence on the market. ..that's because there are too many sick people in the risk pools and not enough healthy ones to offset the costs. And the situation is getting worse, he said.

The whole "you have to have a replacement" is a phony premise. Just repeal it. The free market will take care of the rest.

Oh I know the snowflakes and idiots will kvetch, but that is all they need to do.

This is why I hate republicans, too often they accept the premises of the idiot leftwards. This is why my only expectation of Trump is the Supreme Court. If he fucks me on that, then he fucks me.

More backtracking and reevaluation of Trump's supposed "promises" from another one of his dim bulb followers.

Free market idiots. The free market is what was running prices sky high before ACA. How's it going to cure what it's primarily responsible for?

Someone must've double tapped your head.

A free market has not existed in health care for generations. So your broadside is not only inaccurate, but it is just left wing talking points

Here is the solution to paying for healthcare in this country. Now pay attention because you are about to have your mind blown

Treat medical insurance just like we treat car insurance and home owners insurance

1) People buy insurance for catastrophic conditions like heart attacks, cancer etc. The kinds of things that can bankrupt a family. You know like when a fire burns down your house? Same concept

2) Pay cash for everything else. Want a physical? Pay cash. Want a urinalysis? Pay cash. Prescriptions? Pay cash. Costs will come tumbling down because for non emergent (where most healthcare dollars are spent) would become price conscious shoppers the way they are for televisions.

3) Allow people to buy medical insurance across state lines

4) Get government out of the business of mandating particular coverage. Hint: A 65 year old women doesn't need to pay for obstetrics.

5) decouple medical insurance from employment.

Do these five things which requires ZERO gobblement meddling and the cost of health care will come tumbling down the way all things come tumbling down when there is competition and a lack of gobblement.

The lesson was free. What you do with your new found knowledge is up to you.

Exactly.

The Repugs have already acquiesced to that reality.

If slump even lasts three years, Obamacare will still be around with him.

You really nailed the issue on the head in your last paragraph.

Denying a cure to someone simply because he cannot afford it is immoral.

You are half of the problem. The first half is the bullshit around pre existing conditions and keeping kids on their parents plans. Both are irresponsible and were designed specifically to collapse the existing system

Denying poor people health care for lack of ability to pay is beneath immoral. It's criminal.

Why?

Poor people get denied healthcare under Medicaid and Medicare. Where is the bitching about that? On what are you basing this morality? What foundation?

If you don't get rid of the preexisting condition exclusions you can't get rid of the individual mandate or the subsidies. What is it you want to get rid of?
I want to get rid of the whole thing. The only people that wanted it were all the utopian obama voters. Never quite understood why the "preexisting condition" crowd thought they should be able to say to an insurance company, "hey! I have a preexisting condition! I'm going to pay you a premium of $250 a month, and you are going to pay my medical expenses that come to $5000 a month". And the reason why people want to keep their kids on their policies until they're almost 30 is because there aren't enough jobs for them. Another reason not to replace it is, we never had it before, and insurance was cheaper(and the care was better).

More dishonest bullshit from our resident with the shitty DNA

What have I backtracked on? I have said from the beginning that I only care about the Supreme Court. I could give fuck all about anything else.

Someone must've slammed your head with a large hammer.
