Not true, it is basically a half and half thing currently. Sometimes the smaller states win it.That's what we have now. Two or three big states elect the president. You may as well not even vote, Damo.

I bet you won't agree to voter ID for elections though, prove me wrong. The winner-take-all system really may benefit large states in some elections, and in other it benefits small states. Why? There's really not any reason for it. It's just ambigious and senseless.
Nationwide popular vote or proportional allocation of electoral votes both seem better. Proportional allocation would give small states a very, very large advantage. But at least it is consistent in doing that.
Popular vote, however, would insure that each American had an exactly equal say in the process. Consistently.
Although each state may technically have the ability to change it themselves, the way it's set up there's really no reason for any state to adopt a system that may result in their electoral vote being split. It's really all or none.
There is certainly something odd going on there, Trump should introduce voter ID for elections as a matter of priority.I've done statistical analysis in my career and I can tell you folks that when there's one data set that's as skewed as CA , that data from the outlier is usually thrown out as an anomoly. And CA is very, very skewed compared to all other states, NY included. hrc got about 4.3million more votes in CA than trump.
So if I were doing a scientific research project, CA would be considered an anomaly with hrc getting about twice as many votes as trump.
At least the EC takes CA into consideration and more so than any other state.
For what it's worth.
Of course what you are really saying is that you hate that Clinton lost and that's all that matters. Would you play chess with someone if they wanted to change the rules halfway through?I hate it. It's the dumbest method anyone's ever come up with for electing a person to public office. It doesn't even benefit small states, really, it's just completely arbitrary. Let's just get rid of the damn thing already. It's never resulted in a better presidential election than the popular vote itself, in any case.
Some states award all their electoral votes to the winner. Others allocate electoral votes proportionally. It's true that the electoral college doesn't make much sense in a democracy but we were a republic back then and it made a huge difference.
We have to keep in mind that the founders wanted the executive to be the weakest branch of government. That is no longer the case. We are now a democracy and the executive has powers far beyond what the founders wanted.
The College of Electors is the last remnant of the Republic and some of us old fartz hate to see it done away with...that's all.
You don't understand American culture. This notion that you have to have "papers" or "a card" is abhorrent to us. It violates a presumption of innocence. I have no obligation to carry papers for the government. We live in a free society. Besides we have had elections for many years, with out ID requirements, where election fraud has been statistically insignificant. It's a solution in search of a problem. There is certainly something odd going on there, Trump should introduce voter ID for elections as a matter of priority.

You've been eating too many Spartans Wolvie.Doing away with the electoral college would ensure a monarchy, where illegal immigrants, and dead people in the major population centers which also just happens to be where the new plantations are would be the only votes that count, plantations where the freebies flow like milk and honey! No Thanks!

http://www.gallup.com/poll/194741/four-five-americans-support-voter-laws-early-voting.aspxThough many of the arguments for early voting and against voter ID laws frequently cite minorities' voting access, nonwhites' views of the two policies don't differ markedly from those of whites. Seventy-seven percent of nonwhites favor both policies, while whites favor each at 81%. Nonwhites are, however, more likely to support automatic voter registration (71%) than are whites (59%).
Requiring all voters to provide photo identification at their voting
Favor: 80%
Oppose: 19%
http://www.weeklystandard.com/the-majority-of-minorities-support-voter-id-laws/article/2003934According to poll data from Gallup, released this week, 77 percent of American Hispanics and Blacks support voter ID laws. The figure is essentially the same among whites; 81 percent back ID laws. All in all, large majorities in both parties support voter ID laws.
Yes we are the same over here. The UK is virtually alone in Europe in not having identity cards. However there is now a determined push to get voters to bring a passport, driver's licence or a utility bill along to the polling station. I can't see what the big deal is personally, surely everybody has some form of ID like electricity, gas or phone bill with their name and address on it?You don't understand American culture. A utility bill with proof of address could suffice, it doesn't have to be a passport or driver's licence.first off, way to bump a 9 year old thread guys.
Second, how do you know there is no fraud? There really isn't much of a way to check.
In massachusetts, you just walk up and give your name and address, no proof necessary. I could give the name of my friends easily and vote in their place. My brother didn't vote this year, I live nearby and could have easily given his address and name. California is even worse.
And you suck government dick everyday. You fill out papers for the government. They are called tax forms. You need an ID to basically function in this society. Now i am not saying I approve of a government ID, but there probably is some solution inbetween what you are advocating and what tom is advocating.
